LONDON — Foundry chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said Thursday (Jan. 14) that it planned to recruit more than 3,000 employees to help it expand manufacturing capacity, according to a Reuters report. TSMC would start recruiting this month and that most of the recruits would be engineers, referenced TSMC as saying. TSMC employees about 23,000 people so the expansion would represent about 13 percent of the present workforce.
TSMC announced strong sales in December and plans to increase capital expenditure in 2010. TSMC announced the news after the Taipei stock market closed on Thursday, Reuters said.
