Becoming an Associate on our Advanced Procurement team will give you the opportunity to manage a commodity group and guide supplier performance, compliance, and development. You will be responsible for negotiating contracts and evaluating book of business cost impacts based on the commodity market. You will have the opportunity to work on new production innovations and bring new business to your suppliers.
Building strong relationships quickly will be key as you will be working closely with suppliers, engineers, quality, and production buyers. In this role you will interact with multiple functional groups and be able to meet with an array of people within the organization.
Your main performance metrics will be to increase suppliers' on-time delivery performance, decrease suppliers' defects per million, conduct supplier audits on time, perform to cost target on new products, and adhere to new product schedules.
After joining this team, you will quickly understand FDA regulations and how it applies to purchasing controls. You will have the opportunity to earn a Stat-a-Matrix ISO 13485 lead auditor certification. You will gain in-depth knowledge of a specific commodity group and have the opportunity to lead key projects at Stryker Medical. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the purchasing function within appropriate guidelines, policies and regulations. 2. Conducts supplier audits. 3. Monitors supplier relationships, negotiations, and problem resolution. 4. Manages suppliers' performance and develops as required. 5. Procures parts for new products to an established product schedule and cost target. 6. Negotiates book of business price increases/decreases. 7. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and compliance activities within prescribed area to include, but not limited to: Federal Drug Administration, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO standards, safety and OSHA regulations, affirmative action guidelines, and equal employment practices. 8. Oversees special projects and assignments. 9. Contributes to new product innovation by working with suppliers and engineering teams to make sourcing decisions, negotiate pricing, set up new parts, and successfully hand off to the production team. Listening, working with others and contributing new ideas will be essential. 10. Focuses on customer satisfaction by demonstrated teamwork and empowerment, solving problems through a consultative approach, operating with honesty and integrity, and providing a highly responsive and unsurpassed level of customer service. 11. Responsible for training and mentoring other Procurement teammates which contribute to the success of team members.
Qualifications/Work Experience
• 4 years experience in purchasing or commodity management within a manufacturing environment. • Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills. • Strong relationship skills to develop, mentor and improve supplier performance. • Ability to make decisions impacting team members regarding training, coaching/counseling and appropriate follow-up. • Strong project management skills, with a mind toward continuous improvement. • Ability to make decisions regarding materials, planning, and vendor relationships. • PC literate with strong knowledge of planning systems/approaches and measurement tools essential.
Education and/or Special Training
• Bachelors degree in business or related discipline • MBA a plus, but not required • 4 years experience in purchasing or commodity management within a manufacturing environment.
