Aeronautical Engineer 3
Develop design criteria for aeronautical or aerospace products or systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates. Design, develop, and test a variety of air vehicle modifications, taking into consideration the most efficient use of the natural laws affecting flight. Plan and conduct wind tunnel testing to predict aerodynamic impact and performance optimization of air vehicle modifications if required. Establishes structural specifications, performs stress analysis, and conducts performance tests. Formulate mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify air vehicle design and performance. Write technical reports and other documentation, such as handbooks, technical manuals, and bulletins, for use by engineering staff, management, and customers. Duties include incident investigation, test conducting, test plan generation and final report writing. Availability outside standard work hours, overtime and travel both CONUS and OCONUS may be required. The candidate will be articulate as briefings will be required.
Experience conducting mathematical modeling, and flight performance forecasting. Familiar with planning and conducting the following types of flight tests, and analyzing test results: High-speed taxi testing; takeoff and landing analysis; Airworthiness and envelope expansion testing; Flight critical subsystems (Propulsion, Electrical, Air Data, Flight Controls, etc.); Flying Qualities; Aerodynamic Loads; Excellent written/oral communication skills; Able to work in a diverse, cross-functional team; High energy and a self-starter attitude, goal-oriented, flexible, able to balance multiple tasks; Ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment without compromising personal integrity.
Basic Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering with 5 years experience or an MS in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering with with 3 years experience is required.
US Citizenship, clearable to at least secret level.
Preferred Qualifications: Turbo or Piston engine propeller propulsion experience; UAV experience; Man-machine Interface analysis or Computer display/controls experience. A current Secret Clearance is highly preferred.
