Job Description Summary: JOB SUMMARY General Description
The Assembler is responsible for performing a variety of intricate assembly operations required to produce precise ordnance products. The job requires reading and understanding detailed written Manufacturing Procedures, then either performing delicate assembly operations by hand, or using machines at various work centers to perform or assist in the assembly effort. All assembly, safety, and inspection requirements must be followed and achieved in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with posted schedules.
MAJOR DUTIES
(1) Perform small mechanical assembly operations such as: mixing epoxy and applying it with great care to specific portions of parts that are to be bonded together, installing X-Cord and Jetcord into extruded rubber parts, neatly bonding parts together with silicone rubber products, cutting mild detonating cord and other products to precise lengths with hand tools, scales and any jigs and fixtures provided, attaching seals and identification labels, and attaching parts together by some mechanical means.
(2) Operate and monitor the operation of mechanical equipment such as swaging machines, spot and laser welding machines, Markem and laser marking machines, mechanical crimping machines, cutoff saws, deburring machines, hydraulic presses, and others.
(3) Weigh, load, and inspect the column height of explosive and pyrotechnic powders loaded into small parts in strict accord with written instructions.
(4) Perform mechanical and electrical inspection of products built using precise inspection tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, special inspection fixtures, electrical meters, etc. Record this data accurately on data sheets, Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts, and analyze the data in conjunction with upper and lower control limits as stated in procedures, SPC charts, and other written instructions.
(5) Perform packaging tasks including bagging and tagging parts to be shipped. Perform other work such as tooling or area cleanup as is deemed necessary by supervisor or group leader.
(6) Operate a typewriter or computer terminal for printing name plates, entering shop floor data collection system information, etc.
(7) Read and understand manufacturing procedures in order to properly perform assembly operations.

Basic Qualifications: ESSENTIAL (1) High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Shop courses would be helpful in developing manual dexterity.
(2) Ability to read and precisely follow detailed written assembly instructions. Ability to write simple correspondences in a neat, organized manner.
(3) Demonstrate mechanical dexterity abilities.
(4) Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; convert fractions and decimals. Must be able to read small scales and measuring instruments.
(5) Ability to concentrate on what is being done for extensive periods of time.
PREFERRED (1) Two years experience working in a position which requires good manual dexterity skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
(1) Moving, lifting, carrying of moderate weights may be done daily.
(2) Standing/sitting all day is a requirement of some work centers.
