Assembly Night Shift SupervisorTitle Assembly Night Shift Supervisor Department Mechanical Assembly Reports To Manager, Mechanical Assembly Division ASG Cambridge Energy & Industry Location Cambridge, Ontario Major Duties * Coordinate the activities of a group of Toolmakers, Electricians and Assemblers involved in the build, coordination, assembly and integration of robotic work cells, assemblies and factory automation products in order to ensure that a quality product is built on time, safely and under budget. * Machine, fit and assemble component parts and precision tooling or actively participate in panel build and machine wiring activities and integration, with a quality and timely focus, in order to build special-purpose machinery, robotic work cells and factory automation projects. Specific Responsibilities * Perform the job duties and responsibilities of a Senior Toolmaker - Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or Senior Industrial Electrician, depending on experience. * Manage the administration and delegation of work for night shift team members within the Assembly Department according to their skill and experience. * Create a team environment and work with your group to be a positive, motivating force. Manage problems (i.e. absenteeism, attitude, workmanship, efficiency, work habits). * Attend assigned Project Kick-Off meetings (PKO), review scope of work, budget and schedule. * Attend assigned Project Execution Planning meeting (PEP). With the team plan how you are going to execute your part of the project * Attend design reviews to critique mechanical design for functionality and robustness. * Review drawing packages at the detail level for fit, function and manufacturability. * Ensure that all print updates are being completed. * Using Focus, prioritize and track purchased parts with assistance from Inventory Control personnel. * Record project status for weekly team meetings. * Proceed with floor/electrical assembly, assembling the job in a safe and proper order according to procedures, providing the other departments with the tooling needed to accomplish their tasks according to the schedule. * Advise designers of any design issues and collaborate with the team to resolve. Escalate unresolved issued as required. * Perform rework efficiently to ensure minimal impact to budget and schedule. * Ensure that all rework is properly recorded and approved * Participate in the debug/integration of the line and station start up. Verify functionality before programmers are scheduled to begin. * Work with the assigned technical writer when required to assist in the creation of the user manual. * Coordinate and participate in teardown and shipping of the equipment, dismantling in an orderly fashion to minimize installation time at the customers' site. * Mentor/advise team members regarding best practices and customer expectations. * Communicate and be a channel for any constructive or objective ideas that arise; helping to keep the manufacturing standards up-to-date and at the highest level. Use the team as a pool of technical knowledge, solving problems together efficiently. * Provide input to the Manager into the completion of performance appraisals, keeping in mind that performance is key. * Accountable for the health and safety of employees under his/her supervision by ensuring that machinery and equipment are safe, that employees work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures and providing adequate training for employees in specific work tasks to help reduce or eliminate the risk of workplace injuries. * Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. * Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures. Qualifications * A Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator, Industrial Electrician or Construction and Maintenance Electrician or equivalent. * Additional supervisory/leadership training would be an asset. * Five years of hands-on experience in the integration and assembly of custom factory automation. * A working knowledge of PLCs, machine controls, hardware and leading-edge technology is required. * Previous supervisory experience considered an asset.
Note: Expected shift will be Monday to Thursday, 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM or 4:00 PM - 2:00 AM, depending on workload. Job Type Full Time Date Added 1/5/2012
