Assembly Supervisor

COMPANY SUMMARY:


Machine Solutions, Inc. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:


This position requires that the Assembly Supervisor be self-driven, with an attitude to accept the continuous change in schedules as well as a willingness and eagerness to gain an understanding of our business model, goals and manufacturing supply chain process flow at MSI. Assembly Supervisor must also be able to positively motivate employees and clearly communicate expectations of each employee and the overall team based on the needs of the MSI business model and monthly/quarterly goals.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Direct support & oversight of Assembly/Headshop – Daily schedules, Personnel issues, Staffing, Vacations, etc.

  • Work with Machine Shop, Purchasing, & Engineering Managers to schedule all projects according to the build schedules, customer needs, and current production load.

  • Coordinate daily production flow for the department to effectively meet and exceed revenue goals, and established company expectations. 

  • Works within the ERP system creating sales orders as a direct back-up and support for the Assistant Operations Manager.

  • Provide performance measurements of the department to the Operations Manager on a weekly and monthly schedule.

  • Provide quarterly/anually performance reviews for individual assemblers focusing on personal & departmental continuous improvement growth. 

  • Seek and apply new methods and ideas to manufacturing practices (implementation of continuous improvement plans, participate in Kaizen events, and work alongside the Director of Operations to promote lean manufacturing practices). 

  • Work with QA to follow through on scrap parts, engineering design issues, MCR’s, and developing a cultural mindset of “In-process quality practices."

  • Participate in coordinating SQA’s/internal FAT’s and final machine run-off’s.

  • Participate in maintaining and updating our manufacturing documentation system.

  • Scheduling and delegation of tasks related to the daily production scheduling modifications.

  • Order and maintain useable bench stock inventory.

  • RMA (Return Material Authorization) management and scheduling/prioritization within the department

  • Justify and approve overtime for the department through Operations Manager. 

  • Participate in weekly status update meetings; provide updates on all builds current and future from manufacturing level

  • Ad-hoc projects as needed



Requirements:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position will supervise all levels of Precision Machine Builders and Head Shop Assemblers.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:


Two year certificate from college or technical school; 2 years related experience and/or training; plus 5 years of experience in manufacturing. Five years of experience in manufacturing or operations management in a Lean Manufacturing setting preferred.


 


Language Skills:


Ability to effectively communicate and practice active listening, when working with assemblers, engineers, and other various departments within our organization. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, utilizing; Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


 


Math Skills:


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


 


Reasoning Ability:


Level 4: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Minimal time will be spent sitting, some time will be spent walking, and lots of time will be spent standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with arms and hands, talking and hearing. Lots of time will be spent lifting weight up to 10 lbs, some time will be spent lifting up to 25 lbs and minimal time will be spent lifting up to 50 lbs. Close and color vision is required for the small parts used in assembly and for the different color of wiring used in assembly. 


 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


Some time will be spent working near moving mechanical parts and with risk of electrical shock. The noise level is expected to be between moderate and loud (air compressors).
