This position represents the entry level position within the Swagelok Energy Advisors group. It is meant as an interim position only. Any associate holding this position must aspire to the position of Field Engineer, Swagelok Energy Advisors as the subsequent step in their career progression. The amount of time spent in the position of Associate Field Engineer will be dependent upon the speed in which the candidate can learn steam system operation and on his/her ability to perform in-plant engineering services. The minimum time expected in this position prior to promotion to Field Engineer is 24 months with a typical duration being 36 months.
The candidate will administratively report to the Director, SEA Operations but will take day-to-day assignments from the SEA Technical Manager and SEA Field Engineers. The candidate must accept travel levels of approximately 75% while holding this position. Travel may be domestic or international.
This position will entail working in environments ranging from classroom type settings (where training programs are typically conducted) to industrial plants (where studies, engineering services, performance assessments and project management are performed). The candidate will have frequent exposure to Swagelok distributors and their sales teams as well as end customers. They will interface with a wide range of individuals within our customers' organizations, from senior management to hourly personnel working in operations and maintenance in the plants.
Key Responsibilities:
. At the direction of the SEA Technical Director the associate will support SEA Field Engineers who are conducting standard steam system training programs for customers. After acting in a support role for several programs the associate will be expected to personally conduct subsets of the overall training. . Assist the Field Engineers in drafting engineering reports at the direction of the Technical Director. Apply continuous improvement techniques on the reports in order to ensure that we are constantly improving the quality of our written communications. . Assist the Technical Director and Field Engineers in the performance of in-plant steam system engineering and in-plant project management work as directed by same. The associate is expected to adhere to a practice of Continuous Learning in order to improve his/her proficiency in steam system engineering. The associate is expected to progress to the level of Field Engineer by the end of their tenure in the Associate Field Engineer role. This will be attained when the individual is capable of performing in-plant service work independent of other Field Engineers. . Learn the process of responding to customer requests for quotations for customized training and in-plant audits. Take responsibility for completing those customer proposals assigned by the Technical Director. . Engage in a continuous learning process. Continually increase knowledge of steam system components and steam system operation. . Pursue outside training in order in enhance competency in technical subjects related to SEA business. . Assist Field Engineers in drafting specifications and Request for Quotations (RFQ's) for equipment to be purchased as part of a steam system upgrade project. Evaluate the bids received in response to the request for quotation and select the successful bidder based on the evaluation. . Assist Field Engineers in drafting scope documents for mechanical subcontractors to secure bids for this work as part of a steam system upgrade project. Perform ASME PTC 4.1 Boiler Efficiency Calculations including the collection of a field and laboratory data required to complete the calculations.
Experience: 5 + years of industry experience. Knowledge of steam system operation a benefit, but not required. Experience working in an operating industrial facility is also required. Must have a working knowledge of all steam system components including steam traps, boilers, deaerators, vent condensers, economizers, condensate recovery systems, boiler feed water treatment systems, etc. Skills: Skilled in interpreting P&ID diagrams and conducting site surveys of fluid systems. Must have strong computer skills. Excellent communication skills a must, both oral and written. Must demonstrate a strong willingness to learn new subject matter.
