Description

The Test Automation Engineer will have overall responsibility for the successful deployment of robust, cost effective, timely and appropriate automation across the organization. Will work closely with the Business and product teams to help achieve operational goals. Core activities will include developing, procuring, implementing and maintaining manufacturing automation equipment to support each of the business teams. They will focus on improving all aspects of existing automation as well as developing and procuring new automation equipment. They will also work directly with the Group Leaders, Cell MPE’s and the Manufacturing Engineering team to implement new and provide support on existing equipment.
The candidate for this position must have prior leadership experience. Showing leadership in project development and management, able to take a lead and hands on roll in design while also mentoring other team members who are assigned to the same project.
Responsibilities
* Develop new equipment specification and design in house and/or seek outside equipment manufacturer as supplier.
* In house development work will require project ownership with the generation and implementation of working mechanical and electrical drawings with part specifications as well as the software development.
* For Automation Equipment purchased outside: Provide detailed equipment specification and obtain quotes from qualified suppliers. Work with supplier with intimate one on one relationship that is ongoing through the products development stages to ensure that all operational equipment needs are met and appropriately documented.
* Provide support with hardware and software modifications and troubleshooting to existing automation equipment for improved: cycle time, performance and operation as required.
* Provide operator training on new or updated automation equipment.
* Work with the Machine Technician group to ensure proper setup and operation documentation is in place.
* Work with the technical training coordinator to ensure associates have all necessary skills for proper equipment operation.
* Work with the maintenance group to ensure proper preventative and autonomous maintenance procedures are developed and followed.
Qualifications
* BSME/EE Degree or equivalent
* 5 years minimum experience with hands on Mechanical/Electrical manufacturing Automation design, procurement and build.
* Intimate knowledge of:
* SPC and automatic data collection techniques.
* Software Control solutions like: Allen Bradley, Rockwell Software such as: RSLogix500/5000, Compact Logix, RSLinx, RSView 32, Device net, and a variety of HMI’s.
* Cognex inspection cameras, Servo Presses, high power PCB mechanical and electrical interface techniques,
* Intimate knowledge of common sensors like , lasers, fiber optic, proximity, transducers, load cells etc.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Solid understanding of Poke Yoke principles.
* Proven leadership:
* Able to lead all aspects of a fixture or machine development team, setting goals and overseeing daily design activity.
* Proven ability to work independently, such as prioritizing development process and project management while supporting ongoing manufacturing.
