Are you a seasoned R&D leader who would like to work in a company that is changing the face of Industrial Automation? If you are looking for opportunities in this space, can competently lead distributed R&D teams, are a manufacturing control technology enthusiast, we have a Director of R&D position open with one of the most visible, innovative and ground changing products called InFusion® in our Invensys Operations Management Business Unit. InFusion forms the core of the Enterprise Control System vision for Invensys Operations Management, and provides a stimulating leadership and growth opportunity within the Company.
The Director of InFusion R&D position will report into the VP of R&D for the Supervisory Platform, which is one of the R&D Segments for Invensys Operations Management. This position is based out of Foxboro, MA, with four line managers reporting in and a product line budget sized between $10-$12 million. This position involves up to 15% travel.
Job Responsibilities
· Lead, manage and direct the R&D activities (design, development, test, release) of US based teams (up to 28 direct and indirect reports), and a sizeable offshore team belonging to our outsourcing partner. The R&D activities would be within the scope of the assigned components within the InFusion product line.
· Collaborate and work with peer x-functional groups (Product Management/Portfolio, Program Management, Technical Support, Delivery, Project Management), Customers and R&D teams to prioritize, plan, execute and deliver projects for the product line roadmap in a timely and high quality fashion.
· Lead the resource/capacity planning and budget management for multiple projects associated with the product line.
· Hire, mentor and grow the next generation of leaders for the product line and ultimately the Segment - which includes line managers, technical leaders, individual contributors etc., Mentoring will need to include working in an outsourced execution environment, working with distributed x-functional and R&D teams, and learning to be Agile in planning and execution.
· Champion the existence of InFusion and its role within the Enterprise Control System strategy, work with the senior leadership team and the Portfolio team to build upon the foundation of this strategy, and make the vision a reality. This includes participating in strategic product vision and direction, along with timely, cost bound and high quality execution of associated projects.

/>Required Skills/Experience
· 15 years of Product Development experience o 5-7 years being in the role of a Director of Development for an infrastructure/server based product. o The role demands a high degree of technical competence and aptitude - the applicant must have had at least 5 years of experience as a technical lead or a line manager for server based infrastructure products. o Have a strong track record of good resource/budget planning, timely, on-budget and high quality delivery of multi-year project efforts through global R&D teams.
· 10 years of R&D leadership experience o Should be a proven leader, capable of motivating and managing a large team through line managers. o Should have built/mentored/grown managers and technical leaders through their career, by attracting and retaining the best talent. o Built relationships with x-functional peer leaders within the business unit and have a strong network in the industry o Analyze and provide practical solutions to complex business problems
· 5-10 years of experience with offshore outsourcing o Initiated, managed and sustained outsourcing relationships with partners o Outsourced significant product development projects and managed sizeable (100 ) offshore resources in an outsourced capacity o Developed and championed outsourcing models, trained US based teams on working with outsourced development teams o Competently managed distributed, global R&D teams
· 5-10 years of experience in the Industrial Automation/Manufacturing Control o Emphasis on product component development for Industrial HMIs, Engineering Environments for Control (prefer experience with Distributed Control Systems) o Prior experience with leading Industrial Automation vendors (Honeywell, Emerson, Aspen, Rockwell, ABB, Siemens etc.,) highly preferred
· Excellent verbal, written communication, listening and negotiation skills o Ability to build strong relationships with peer groups o Ability to articulate vision/strategy into execution details to team members o Ability to champion significant culture changes, and motivate teams through the change
· Strong experience (5-10 years) with the product development (software) lifecycle, associated processes, methodologies for planning, execution and release management o Have experience with Agile/Iterative methodologies (SCRUM, XP, RUP etc.,) o Project management experience/certification (PMP) preferred o High focus on management by metrics
Education/Experience o Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field required o Management degree (MBA) preferred
