Director of Global Supply Chain

The Global Supply Chain Director is responsible for the overall strategy and performance of the Amsted Rail-Brenco Global Supply Chain. The primary focus is to ensure the successful execution of Amsted Rail's business strategy though Supply Chain activities. The Director will lead and support Brenco's Planning, Sourcing, and Logistics Teams in meeting their functional objectives. The Director reports to the Vice President and General Manager of Bearing Operations and will participate in company-wide strategy discussions and decisions. The Director will also regularly interact with corporate and division senior executives in all functional areas to meet strategic, operational, financial and supply chain objectives.

Develop, Refine and Improve Brenco's Supply Chain Strategy

*         Identify opportunities to meet supply chain objectives, including customer responsiveness, cost reduction, asset utilization, supply chain flexibility, risk mitigation, and working capital optimization.

*         Build business cases to justify new approaches to supply chain management.

*         Design and implement processes and supporting systems/tools to deliver exceptional supply chain performance.

 

Design, Support and Improve Supply Chain Planning Processes (S&OP)

*         Demand Planning - Oversee the demand planning process for the product line, working with Amsted Rail Sales, Marketing, and customers to create accurate forecasts.

*         Supply Planning - Indentify critical long-term supply constraints and work with operations, purchasing, quality and engineering to resolve.

*         Production Planning - Monitor short-term operational efficiencies, capacities and inventories (raw, WIP and finished) to identify and eliminate supply interruptions to customers.

*         New Product Development and Introduction - Collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Operations, Purchasing and Sales to evaluate potential new products and successfully bring them to market.

 

Design, Support and Improve Purchasing and Sourcing Processes

*         Supply Base Diversification- Ensure supply base can support company strategy over the short and long term through strategic sourcing, outsourcing, process improvement and system utilization.

*         Supplier Development - Drive and support efforts to increase supplier integration, improve delivery performance, shorten lead times, and reduce delivered costs.

*         Negotiate with Key Suppliers - Lead and assist in annual contract and on-going supplier negotiations to obtain the best prices, terms and conditions possible.

 

Design, Support and Improve Logistics Processes

*         Transportation - Support cost and service enhancements of inbound, outbound, domestic and international shipments.

*         Material Handling - Assist in intracompany material handling improvements to better support the Operations department.

*         Warehousing - Oversee warehousing and inventory control, including the management of offsite warehouses.

*         Corporate Logistics - Support corporate logistics projects, including negotiating national contracts, implementing transportation and logistics systems, and ensuring compliance with all domestic and international regulations.

 

Additional Responsibilities

*         Attract, develop and retain talent within the Supply Chain Department to achieve world class supply chain performance.

*         Regularly collaborate with key customers and suppliers to better execute company strategy.

*         Take on leadership roles in cross-divisional supply chain initiatives.

*         Support Russian and South African Joint Ventures in all supply chain related matters.

*         Lead efforts to identify and utilize technology to support supply chain execution and improvement.

*         Assist in corporate marketing activities and competitor analysis on an as-needed basis.

*         Monitor, analyze and improve Supply Chain Performance by developing metrics and ensuring aggressive targets are met.

  • Must be capable of defining, analyzing and resolving complicated problems in an ever-changing environment.
  • Must be able to develop, implement and optimize cross-functional and cross-organizational processes between customers, vendors, Joint Ventures and Amsted Rail divisions.
  • Must be capable of, and experienced in, working with different functional areas (operations, purchasing, logistics, finance, engineering, sales and customer service) and companies throughout the supply chain (customers, vendors, 3PLs, Joint Ventures and outsourcing suppliers).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Must have 5+ years of people management experience. Must be comfortable and capable of working with the Executive Team on all demand and supply matters.
  • Exceptional analytical, Excel, and SAP skills are required. Knowledge of APO and Business Objects is a plus.
  • Position requires a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, Mathematics or a related field and at least 10 years of relevant experience. MBA preferred. Knowledge and experience with lean manufacturing highly valued. APICS certification a plus.
  • Up to 30% domestic and international travel is expected.
