The Global Energy, Government & Construction (EG&C) Operations Manager is responsible for market sizing, staffing, training, and profit growth of air and ocean freight transportation derived from EG&C companies. He/She drives the Sales team to achieve long-term, sustainable business growth.
This position identifies targets, develops, implements, and manages new and existing global business opportunities resulting in increased revenue and profits. He/She provides consultation to Operations and Business Development (BD) for EG&C freight forwarding opportunities.
Other Duties
Oversees the development of solutions for meeting resource needs (e.g., export packing, rigging services, etc.) globally to overcome service offering gaps in a cost-effective manner.
Develops marketing plans to meet global product sales and revenue growth targets.
Interfaces with other business units (e.g., Information Technology, Accounting, Marketing, etc.) and senior management to manage day-to-day operations.
Prepares financial plans and annual budgets.
Prepares annual revenue forecasts to manager and is responsible for meeting/exceeding monthly, quarterly and annual revenue and Global Revenue after Transportation Expense (GRATE) forecast.
Works with UPS SCS region counterparts to support timely and competitive responses to requests for information, requests for proposal and spot quotations on EG&C opportunities.
Works with UPS personnel globally to support EG&C air, ground and sea shipments from new and existing UPS customers.
Occasional travel to oversee complex loading/off-loading of complex or high value cargoes.
Preferred Competencies
Applies expert-level operational knowledge of rating and routing of government contractor, construction, oil field, mining and other production machinery to and from supplier plants and customer sites around the world via air, sea and ground modes of transport.
Applies expert-level operational knowledge of export packing, crating and materials management requirements that are unique to construction, oil field, mining and other production machinery, as well as government-owned/impelled transportation.
Applies expert-level operational support for over-the-road route planning of too high/too wide cargo transport, particularly in developing world locations.
Familiarity of non-American cultures is essential as is a strong working knowledge of international geography.
Strong working knowledge of import/export documentation, letters of credit, incoterms and countries requiring pre-inspection and certification would be helpful.
Applies ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to convert metric, imperial and U.S. weight, volume and length measurements and concepts beyond basic mathematics.
Ability to speak and write in language(s) in addition to English preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
10 years related experience in an international transportation/logistics environment involving EG&C-oriented cargo; familiarity with government/military logistics requirements; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
