Major Duties Supervise and coordinate the activities of electrical shop technicians involved in the fabrication, wiring, assembly and installation of custom Automated Test Systems. Responsible for successful completion of every project involving the shop staff.
Specific Responsibilities
Project-Specific Duties:

* Review project kickoff packages, schedule, etc. Estimate manpower, assign resources, attend kick off meetings.
* Create project task registers based on overall project schedule.
* Track all projects to schedule. Work with project managers to maintain project schedules against resource load.
* Co-ordinate activities of own workers and converse with project managers and/or superiors to avoid conflicts.
* Review project forecasts and budgets. Estimate labor to complete on a monthly basis. Responsible for ensuring project fabrication budgets are maintained.
* Ensure Technicians review purchased materials for delivery dates. Work with purchasing and project management to resolve conflicts arising from late deliveries before they become critical to the success of the project.
* Responsible for the complete success of all projects at ATS Test Systems Inc. in terms of system fabrication, power up, on time delivery (hand off to project team for debug) and built to ATS Test Systems Inc. quality standards.

Technical-Related Duties:

* Oversee the set-up of machines and projects and interpret work orders, engineering specifications and technical drawings. Act as a technical resource for technicians.
* Review and monitor daily progress and quality of jobs. Inspect jobs frequently to ensure that technicians are progressing adequately. Set out daily goals for technicians.
* Act as a back up resource for shop in case of technician resource conflict (holidays etc).
* Provide phone support for employees in the field.
* Review and approve service reports on successful completion on service rendered by a shop employee.
* Must become fully competent in all ATS Test standard products, in terms of build and operational functionality.
* Project manager for special jobs relating to shop fabrication and/or build to print jobs with little or no design effort.
* Responsible for outsourcing of specialty items for which the fabrication department may not have the skills or tools to produce. (custom brackets etc).
* Work with the Applications department to estimate labor effort for quoting purposes as required Departmental related duties.
* Create resource loading chart and estimate manpower requirements for a minimum four month time frame.
* Establish methods to meet work schedules, using knowledge of capacities of workers, machines and equipment.
* Requisition materials and supplies as required.
* Review and purchase tools to ensure successful build of projects.
* Maintain shop floor layout plan, ensuring that floor space and correct utilities (power, air) are available for all projects.
* Ensure that quality of work meets established standards and inspect materials received.
* Recommend measures to improve work methods, equipment performance, quality of product and working conditions.
* Maintain all department procedures. Create and maintain a department manual for non-ISO related procedures.
* Continuous improvement. Suggest and implement methods to improve efficiency within the department.
* Schedule, review and ensure correct preventive maintenance for all shop equipment.
* Responsible for scheduling, reviewing, and ensuring all engraving functions are adequately performed. Work with department manager to resolve conflicts.
* Ensures that the overall shop and project areas are maintained in a neat, orderly and safe fashion.

Human Resources-Related Duties:

* Suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.
* Accountable for the health and safety of employees under his/her supervision.
* Conduct and minute department meetings to keep employees informed.
* Work with technicians, review performance, conduct appraisals, mentor, praise, and discipline as required.
* Work with employees and HR to improve department skill level. Suggest courses, seminars, and other methods for improvement.
* Review resumes, interview and hire employees as required.
* Develop department initiatives annually. Follow through to completion.
Qualifications
* A three year college diploma as an electrical/electronic technologist or engineer or industrial electrician.
* A minimum of ten years related work experience in industrial automation, panel building, data acquisition systems and test equipment.
* A minimum of five years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
* The ability to interpret work orders, engineering specifications and technical drawings is essential.
* Experience in scheduling and resources management is an asset.
* Excellent communication skills.
