ENGINEER-PROCESS CONTROL
Title: ENGINEER-PROCESS CONTROL Location: USA-OH-Canton Other Locations: 1. Implement changes to the process control system or systems in a timely and accurate manner. This may involve logic changes in the I/O, the PLC or the general-purpose computer system. Errors in programs typically cause the operation to be shut down until they are fixed. a. The PLCs are programmed in ladder logic, a cryptic Boolean language and are used to directly control the equipment. The process control engineer must make sure that all the people (electrical maintainers, process control technicians) properly document the logic changes that are made and must maintain the ladder listings that describe the logic. As the continuous improvement process changes the operations, it is typical to change the ladder logic to implement the changes. This position will coordinate the activities of the electrical maintainers, the process control technicians and the process control engineers as well as perform some of the changes. b. Current control systems are written using Microsoft .NET, Visual Basic, C or C#. Older systems are written using Open VMS and programmed in Fortran. Most systems also have an SQL database. The engineer/analyst is responsible to change the system to keep it functioning at the request of the local department management and his manager.
2. Assist with design, implement and execute backup procedures for each system, including disaster recovery procedures.
3. As the departments operate 24 hours/day and many 7 days/week, the engineer is responsible for keeping the system running during all hours of operation and will be called upon to fix the system at any time it may break.
4. Build and maintain interfaces to other Steel Business computer systems that provide data to and need data from the control system. This includes scheduling, data reporting and historical reporting systems. Provide reports and other data at the request of others, especially as a participant in process improvement teams.
5. Maintain accurate lists of requested changes. Support all applicable SOX requirements
6. Develop a basic understanding of the computer network architecture in the area of support.
7. Develop a complete understanding of the Steel Manufacturing Area and Operation in which assigned Minimum Requirements:
Associates Degree in Electrical Technology/Computer Program. Specific knowledge of Electronic Technology and at least 3 years of related experience
Preferred Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Eng/Electronic Tech/Comp Sci. in OJT Apprenticeship/ Computer Science. Specific knowledge of Electrical Engineering and 0 years of experience. Ability to write Computer Programs in at least 1 Programming Language i.e. VB Understanding of Databases and database access tools Understaning Networking and Network comunication Understanding of Computer System administration
