Environmental Specialist
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for providing technical and regulatory expertise in support of an integrated plant environmental management system to proactively address environmental issues and assure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Provide leadership and teamwork necessary to facilitate conformance with government requirements and corporate procedures throughout plant organizations, facilities and processes. Participate in the development and implementation of facility pollution prevention programs to eliminate, reduce, reuse and/or of wastes. Coordinate the plant's spill response program including implementation of the facility Episode Plan. Serve as an Incident Commander. Facilitate implementation of environmental education / awareness programs for plant employees including regulatory required training (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Department of Transportation, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, etc.) Conduct routine plant self-audits and participate in corporate and regulatory agency audits including problem resolution. Oversee plant Total Waste Management (TWM) Program and on-site TWM personnel. Prepare routine environmental reports, permit applications, inventories and surveys including: data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval and submittal to regulatory agencies. Participate in environmental project management including input to capital and operation budgets, preparation of appropriation requests, purchase requisitions, design review, contractor oversight and related activities. Coach plant personnel, prepare/review/maintain plant operating procedures and work instructions to assure the enhanced environmental management system (EEMS) is robust and meets ISO 14001 requirements. Represent the company with respect to external organizations including: regulatory agencies, government officials, media, public, contractors, consultants, community organizations, etc. as appropriate. Act as a focal point for measurement of environmental metrics and communication of progress to management. Act as Environmental Lead to the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Environment Pillar Champion. Assist with all facets of the WCM Environment Pillar including pillar meetings, audits, presentations, kaizens, and training.
Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Science, Environmental Management or equivalent field required
• Minimum of 10 years environmental experience in an industrial setting
• Minimum of 5 years environmental experience in an automotive manufacturing setting
• Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Professional, PowerPoint, spreadsheets and database applications
• Must have HAZWOPER Incident Commander 40 hour training, Hazardous Waste training, DOT training (or be committed to obtain within first 6 months on the job)

Preferred Qualifications: • Masters in Environmental or Engineering field
