Facilities Plant Engineer 3\4

Leads teams to develop complex conceptual analysis to determine the cause of asset failures and reduction in mechanical systems asset capacity by using reliability tools and methods (e.g., life cycle analysis, condition based maintenance, root cause failure methodology, mean time between failures, fault tree analysis, etc.). Participates, facilitates and leads others in designing, engineering and implementing complex improvements in mechanical systems (e.g., piping, HVAC, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, air compressors, cranes, etc.). Researches and champions the effectiveness, availability, and maintainability of existing mechanical systems and improved configurations of new assets in order to enhance system life by supporting reliability programs. Participates, facilitates and leads others in developing preventive maintenance processes using reliability centered maintenance concepts. Participates on or leads cross-functional teams to integrate the activities of multiple engineering disciplines, technicians, outside consultants and government agencies. Leads teams that manage and support complex construction projects by providing input on vendor selection; reviews contractor proposals; interfaces with government/regulatory agencies; monitors project progress and vendor/consultant performance. Leads the technical and business decision making process by providing input to strategic, short-term, and long-term mechanical systems infrastructure planning; completes studies; analyzes current conditions and future requirements; recommends capital improvements; gathers and analyzes data; performs root cause analysis of the system; and works with both internal and external customers in order to identify and assess alternatives and impacts. Leads in translation of customer requirements into conceptual design by analyzing intended use/occupancy and desired aesthetics using mechanical engineering principles, conducting code research, developing preliminary design elements, determining interdisciplinary engineering support requirements, estimating resource costs/requirements, identifying materials, equipment, and services, and developing initial project schedule in order to establish project scope in response to customer requirements. Plans, manages, and executes large or complex technical projects.

Basic - Complete knowledge of mechanical engineering theories (e.g., compressible/incompressible fluid flow, Bernoulli's Theorem, thermodynamics, control theory, Mohr's theory of stress) and methods/formula selection (e.g., vibration analysis, seismic analysis, fan laws, load calculations, heat transfer, flow, air/water balancing, root cause analysis, pressure drop).

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Do you have a minimum of 5 years experience creating, reading and interpreting engineering drawings and documents?

Are you willing to come into work on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts on work or non-work days to perform emergent work or technical support?

Do you have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical facilities and/or equipment engineering?

Do you meet the criteria described in the 'Typical Education / Experience' section of this requisition?

Typical Education/Experience
Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Other Job related information
An ABET accredited degree or a Washington State Professional Engineering License are highly preferred. A Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred. Experience in reliability tools and methods is preferred. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Conditioned Based Maintenance, Statistical Process Control, Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Ultrasonics is highly desirable.
