Georgia-Pacific is recruiting a General Manager to grow one of our packaging plants, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Full P&L responsibility for a unionized corrugated converting operation: lead sales, operations, safety, compliance and administration
Ensure compliance with applicable governmental / GP regulations, related to commercial activities and environmental, health and safety
Develop and maintain market point of view and business vision, including strategies to increase returns on capital consumed and profitably grow the business, in line with GP Packagings Vision
Implement the plant vision and growth strategies
Supervise plant manager, who leads day-to-day manufacturing operations of plant, which includes receiving, scheduling, manufacturing, maintenance, plant infrastructure and shipping
Lead commercial efforts by supervising the sales manager, including direct sales, indirect sales, marketing, pricing, customer service and purchasing
Develop and coach direct reports
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required
5+ years post-college experience, to include previous general management a manufacturing environment
Experience in the area of sales would be a plus
High level of humility and comfort with constructive criticism and challenge
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Understand and be able to interpret and analyze financial and operating statements
Experience leading and managing direct reports including coaching, performance feedback, and incentives
Ability to interface with, influence, and gain credibility across all levels:
Executive (GP senior leadership; customers at the CEO, President and VP level)
Direct reports and dotted line reports (Plant Manager, Sales Manager, HR Manger, Controller, EH&S Manager, etc.)
Customer purchasing managers, buyers, plant managers and front-line
GP Supervisors and leads
GP front-line employees
Sales and marketing strategy development; lead salespeople in developing pipelines and executing on sales goals
Personally conduct high-value sales: must be able to open a relationship, develop the relationship, and close the sale
Ability to conduct market research including supply and demand analysis to develop market point of view
Identify opportunities to grow returns and bottom-line based on current capabilities
Understand fundamental manufacturing and operations concepts / key levers
Understand price / volume trade-offs and overall profit maximization
