Job Responsibilities: This position reports to the Production Superintendent, and is dedicated to providing leadership and direction for activities of the assigned crews in safely achieving production standards within budget, and without sacrificing product quality. Supervisors rotate shifts with employees, and must be comfortable with physical aspects of the plant's environment, comprising various byproducts of raw materials which go into producing roofing. Supervisors of roofing line crews cover the full length of line operations numerous times during a shift. This position will also be responsible for general plant supervision including maintenance, production, storeroom, and shipping.
Areas of responsibility include (but are not limited to) training and scheduling employees, monitoring processes and product quality, and effectively communicating with all departments to ensure on-going manufacture of products. This supervisory position is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment through informal, as well as periodic formal, safety training of production employees. The individual who holds this position will be involved in all facets of the plant operation, including holding employees accountable for housekeeping within their work areas. Supervisors are responsible for enforcing plant rules, counseling and disciplining employees when applicable, and ensuring that corrective actions are taken when warranted. The successful supervisor will openly and honestly communicate with employees in order to build trust and encourage employee involvement.
Position requires a minimum of an associate degree in a technical field, and experience which lends itself to a working knowledge of practices, procedures and operations of a manufacturing facility. Must have previous supervisory experience. Core competencies include effective communications, listening skills, and an ability to organize. Must demonstrate strong leadership skills within this area of expertise. Must be computer literate and either have knowledge of the Six Sigma process, or possess the ability to learn the Six Sigma process in order to participate in assigned projects.
