Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Reports to: Lead Millwright
Department:Maintenance
Hours per shift: Normalwork schedule 8 hour shifts, Monday through Friday. Frequently works weekends as required to accommodate mill operations schedule and reduce impact of maintenance on production.
Wage: $19.75/hr
Position Purpose:Maintain plant vehicles/equipment including, but not limited to: forklifts,
Pickups, log handling machines (950, 988, Komatsu and shovel), welder, pressure washers, shop
equipment and manlifts.
Essential Functions:
(1) Communicate with operators to identify and repair problems with vehicles/equipment.
(2) Maintain regular service intervals for all vehicles/equipment and document actions in maintenance records.
(3) Troubleshoot malfunctions and implement repair actions.
(4) Coordinate with outside agencies for assistance with repairs beyond internal capabilities.
(5) Maintain adequate levels of supplies to optimize in service time for all vehicles/equipment
(6) Inspect, repair and adjust diesel powered vehicles/equipment
(7) Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
(8) Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
(9) Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
(10) Other duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
(1) Welding
Work Environment//Physical & Mental Demands/Skills:
* Work Environment:Typically works indoors in heated shop. But works outdoors during the day or at night as required. Often performs work in noisy environment requiring use of hearing protection.
Exposed to:
* direct sunlight, rain, wind, snow and hot and cold temperatures.
* hydraulic fluids, ATF, oils, anti freeze, greases, other lubricants, cleaning agents and degreasers.
* Personnel Protective Equipment required:Required to wear safety glasses (corrective lenses permitted at own expense), hearing protection and safety vest while performing duties (company provided)
Required to wear gloves when appropriate (company provided)
Required to wear rain suit when operating pressure washers (company provided)
* Physical & Mental Demands:Worker will bend, twist, squat, push/pull (back legs) using waist, shoulders, arms, hands, and wrists to manipulate a variety of hand tools. Lift 50 lbs. occasionally. Often kneels or crawls under vehicles. Climbs ladders and stands for long periods of time.
Must be able to concentrate in a noisy environment, deal with frequent interruptions, juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, exercise independent judgment or perform other mental tasks.
Operate equipment for the purpose of checking malfunctions or repairs or move equipment to facilitate maintenance actions.
* Skills:All facets of heavy equipment repairs including repair of hydraulic, electrical, gas, diesel, and propane systems.
Operate heavy equipment.
Use vision/hearing continuously, reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, Machine Specific Lockout Procedures, monthly safety training topics, and Job Certification if applicable.
Mechanic communicates with rolling stock operators and management face-to-face, via radio, and telephone.
* Worker generally works alone, with little supervision. Must be self-directed in identifyingand efficiently completing each next task.
(6) Personal Expenses:
Mechanics are required to provide their own set of tools.
