Summary:
· Responsible for piecing and top stitching material as indicated on the shop order print and in the sewer’s handbook.
· Successfully meet all production and quality guidelines for piecing and topstitching.
· To provide a high quality and efficiently sewn part to be passed on to the upholstery department and ultimately the customer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following:
Other duties may be assigned.
· Ability to operate, adjust, and perform TPM on all industrial sewing machines and related equipment as needed.
Standard Seaming
Single needle topstitching
Double Needle Topstitching
Serger
Shearing Machines

· Ability to learn proper scanning, read and understand work instructions, drawings, and work orders.

· Ability to follow verbal instructions.

· Ability to do repetitious duty for required period of time.

· Ability to sew different fabrics as needed ranging from but not limited to kevlar to denim while conforming to quality and production specifications.

· Ability to thread needles, pivot round and square corners, insert zippers, setting gauges, adjust stitch size, alter bobbins, and insert welt cords.

· Possess ability and knowledge to inspect work for quality, straightness, strong seams, and mistakes and repair them as necessary.

· Ability to read and understand measurement tools.

· Ability to work with and around other individuals in a team environment. This involves both working independently and also flexing into various operations within a team environment.

· Ability and knowledge to perform sewing repairs.

· Ability and knowledge to retrieve materials for shop orders.

· Must be able to meet and maintain at least an 80% efficiency.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or experience:
Minimum level of education preferred: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Previous sewing experience is preferred.

Language Abilities:
The ability to read and interpret documents such as shop order prints and the sewer’s handbook. Ability to communicate problems with material or sewing to proper supervisor. Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets when using chemicals.

Mathematical Skills:
Knowledge of the standard (non-metric) unit of measurements. Know and understand fractions up to 1/16 of an inch and how to make measurements with a ruler. Overall ability to do basic math.

Reasoning Ability:
Possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and straightforward written or oral instructions. Ability to perform critical thinking functions.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to regularly sit and use foot pedal when operating the sewing machine. The duties require good hand and finger dexterity and strength in order to push, pull, and tightly grip fabric while sewing. Occasionally, the job requires the employee to stand and stoop.

The employee must regularly exert enough force to lift, move, or slide 10 pounds. Occasionally, the employee may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Heavier inventory should be lifted with a partner. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This is required for sewing in a straight line or over another stitch.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be required to frequently use a sewing machine. The employee may also have to use scissors, ruler, serger, or shear.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, an individual is frequently exposed to airborne particles. The employee is also frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration while sewing. The individual is occasionally required to use chemicals to make fabric move smoothly.

The employee is required to wear all mandatory PPE of the department they are working in or temporarily transferred to. Safety glasses at all times while in the plant and shoes covering the entire foot (no sandals). Employees are required to be aware of and follow safety procedures and required to attend all safety training. Employees may be responsible for a monthly safety review.

The noise level is usually loud or equivalent to normal shop conditions.
