SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Vice President of R&D and is responsible for the processing of packaging requests, structural design and integrity of packaging components, compliance with various state and federal requirements, review and recommendation of packaging equipment to increase production levels while reducing manufacturing costs. This position also interfaces with packaging vendors in the execution of projects and is familiar with all aspects of packaging production.
JOB RESPOSIBILITIES:
Execute/lead in the introduction of new packaging components, technologies and processes:
Design packaging components that support product integrity and are compliant with FDA and other regulatory requirements
Design and specify packaging components (strip-hangers at cash register, end-cap and stand-alone displays, etc.) for form, fit and function based on regulatory, product, customer, and marketing requirements.
Work in conjunction with packaging vendors and our manufacturing facilities in finalizing designs to assure manufacturability and ease of packaging assembly.
Review existing packaging for improvement in design, consolidation and reduction in procurement and processing costs.
Test packaging designs to production and shipping standards to assure protection of product during production and shipping.
Author and execute technical protocols and reports.
Work with Operations and QA to qualify new packaging components and/or new processes.
Perform and coordinate, as necessary, with external sources for package testing related to package qualification activities.
Write, develop and approve packaging specifications to support all cGMP packaging and labeling activities.
Execute/lead in identification and implementation of programs to improve the quality and/or efficiency of our packaging operations by:
Provide technical SME to QA, Product Development, Operations, Procurement and Creative teams.
Interface with Regulatory, Marketing, Product Strategy Leaders, Operations and other internal or external customers on new and existing product introductions.
Ensure products conform to regulatory and compliance obligations (e.g. FDA, cGMP, Poison Prevention Packaging Act, etc.).
Provide technical form, fit, function review and approval to the Creative Team.
Requirements:
Applicant should have the following EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent.
Significant experience in packaging development, testing and plant processes in a production environment.
Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes, systems, and packaging equipment required.
Proven ability to develop innovative packaging component solutions that improve operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
Proven track record of managing multiple projects that span different timelines.
Proven risk-based decision making skills without knowledge of all the inputs.
Ability to work seamlessly in a team based environment that include formulation development, purchasing, quality assurance, creative, marketing and manufacturing teams as well as material and processing vendors.
Exhibit clear communication skills (oral, written).
