Company Profile Company Name: Esterline Control Systems BVR Technologies, a subsidiary of Esterline Technologies Corporation Industry: Aerospace/Defense Products & Services Number of Employees: 110 Job Overview Title: Lean Specialist Job Family: Manufacturing/Operations Reports to: Director Of Operations Works with: BVR Sr. Staff, management team, individual employees, Esterline platform & corporate Lean professionals as well as external customers Location: Rockford, IL Type: Full-Time Job Summary Champion operational excellence initiatives by driving process improvements, eliminating waste, reducing cost and optimizing flow. Responsible for analyzing, planning, implementation, training, and facilitating Lean initiatives company-wide. This function will determine the scope, objectives, metrics, cost and schedule for Lean projects. This includes developing Lean improvement strategies and necessary resource requirements. The Lean Specialist will facilitate Lean initiatives including 5S, set-up reduction, workplace organization, standardized work process/work flow improvements, cellular production processes, visual management, Poka-Yoke methods, Value Stream Mapping and Pull Systems. Primary Responsibilities * Working with organizational managers, the Lean Specialist will lead the implementation of specific Lean initiatives throughout the facility. * Benchmark industry best practices to identify future improvements and opportunities. * Leads the planning & execution, from start to completion, of any initiative and working side-by-side with departmental personnel and associated work groups to fully implement and assure sustaining mechanisms are in place. * Proactively involves employees at all levels of the organization to gain their input and support. * Educates and trains all company personnel in the various Lean manufacturing concepts, tools and methods. * Organizes and guides Lean teams to ensure that results are achieved to meet project objectives. * Responsible for the writing of procedures that document changes resulting from Lean initiatives to ensure effective implementation and sustaining efforts. * Participates in the identification and selection of Kaizen activities. * Serves as team leader and facilitator for continuous improvement implementation activities. * Follows-up on tasks generated in project meetings and monitors sustaining activities to ensure successful and timely completion of action items. * Coordinates the implementation of sustaining activities as needed throughout the organization. * Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above * Understand and live by Esterline's ethics and business conduct policies Qualifications * Solid knowledge and background with Lean Concepts (Kanban, 5S, visual management, Poka-Yoke methods, VSM, pull systems, etc.) * Must be able to work effectively with employees at all levels of the company, as well as with suppliers and customers. * Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills. * Strong consulting & coaching skills; acts as an effective advisor to management and employees. * Ability to adapt easily to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. * Excellent team building skills. * Ability to effectively train others. * Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Education/Previous Experience Requirements * Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, or related field. * Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience. * Minimum 3 years experience with focused implementation and facilitation of Lean, continuous improvement initiatives. * Prior leadership experience desired. * SME Bronze level Lean Certification preferred. * Green Belt/Black Belt certification preferred.
