POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for leadership of the maintenance team as they maximize availability of designated plant facilities and equipment while insuring employee safety and product quality. Directly supervises union Mechanical Technicians in the installation, maintenance, repair and/or replacement of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, etc. with an emphasis on mechanical systems. Will be a leader of Professional Maintenance oriented improvement projects in area of responsibility involving the incorporation of World Class Manufacturing techniques and principles into all maintenance systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES . Accountable for safe maintenance activities. Will follow and teach safety systems and procedures to employees and contractors. Will perform regular safety audits. . Leads team using strong people development, team building, coaching and teaching skills . Entrusted with helping to professionally develop team members to their potential, and to promote positive employee relations throughout the maintenance organization. . Responsible for selecting, training and scheduling technicians for work assignments. . Working with Maintenance Planner and Stores Coordinator to rationalize, plan and schedule maintenance activities and ensure availability of supplies and spare parts. . Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments to minimize plant downtime and maximize safety. . Ensure PM's are accomplished in a timely manner and are to a high standard of quality. . Work with Engineering and other functional areas with regards to any proposed changes using the change management system.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES . Plan, utilize and manage outside contractors as necessary. . Maintain, use and train CMMS system. . Support and spread the use of WCM tools within the department. . Support WCM teams in the development of equipment ledgers and problem solving.
. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED . Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering or 5 years of equivalent maintenance experience in an industrial environment may be substituted for a degree. . 3-5+ years of maintenance experience in an Industrial Environment including 2 years of direct supervisory experience . Strong people development, teaming and collaborative decision making skills required. . Requires proficient typing skills and to be comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook/e-mail. Must be able to learn and effectively use local business systems and CMMS systems. . Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements.
PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS . Experience with 5s, conditioned based maintenance techniques and lean manufacturing.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Responsible for staying on target for the maintenance budget in the area of responsibility.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Directly supervises 9-12 employees on maintenance staff, which include mechanics, storage stores personnel, and a maintenance engineer responsible for planning.
WORKING CONDITIONS Works in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes and noise. Plant is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation and work hours may vary depending on business needs. Occasional long hours and weekend and holiday work may be required. May travel as needed, usually via airplanes and rental cars.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to spend significant amount of time on plant floor. Job requires bending, stooping, climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain and infrequent lifting of up to 75lbs. Must be able to wear mandated personal protective equipment per areas accessed.
