Job Description
Applies a solid understanding of engineering and problem-solving theories/practices toward the development of new or enhanced products or processes. Drives service product development process (PDP) deliverables and infrastructure required for initial product launch and lifecycle management. Partners with product line management in developing requirements for optimizing product life cycle costs. Provides leadership in the development of medical device hardware platform features and capabilities. Participates on the R&D design team to select, develop, and implement technologies/features for Baxter medical device hardware system products globally. Recognized within the Service function as the product technical subject matter expert.
1. Represents Technical Services on new product development and/or lifecycle management teams.
2. Creates PDP and lifecycle management service deliverables throughout the product lifecycle for medical device products involving hardware.
3. Works closely with design team to select, develop, and implement technologies across all medical device development programs.
4. Identifies and solves complex problems without assistance. Projects typically include the development of new or improved processes, tools, techniques and procedures.
5. Performs design for serviceability analyses on medical hardware designs and works closely with design teams to recommend design improvements to enhance serviceability.
6. Leads the implementation of complete service offerings infrastructure and service business processes for next generation products.
7. Analyzes global marketplace data to develop strategy and tactics for growing competitive servicing advantages thru product design features and capabilities.
8. Develops / communicates standard economic model to capture and analyze life cycle operating costs.
9. Drives cost/benefit analysis to identify preferred strategy for future service offerings related to new product platforms.
10. May integrate third-party manufactured medical device products into Baxter's service operations in accordance with Baxter distribution and/or development partnerships.
11. May lead a large scale program or several small projects with complex features.
12. May independently plan, schedule and lead cross-functional teams in detailed phases of the engineering work in a project.
13. May perform trend analysis of applicable product or system data. May provide direction or guidance based on analysis results.
14. May approve the work of lower level engineers; may supervise other engineers or technicians.
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
1. Must be well versed in core engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, software, systems engineering).
2. Highly motivated self-starter who is able to work independently, relate to multiple stakeholders, have good interpersonal skills, have superb time management ability, and is capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and application of sound engineering principles.
3. Ability to direct / manage across multiple cross-functional teams and regions.
4. Experience with change control methodologies and configuration management principles.
5. Proven track record of management / leadership effectiveness.
6. Demonstrated communication, motivational skills, and tact in dealing with customers. Ability to interact effectively at all levels in the organization including senior management
7. Ability to develop and improve processes related to the manufacture, service and support of electro-mechanical devices.
8. Firm understanding of GMP and quality system requirements
9. Demonstrated critical thinking and strategic planning skills
10. Must have the ability to travel.
Bachelor's degree in a core engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, software, systems, or mfg/process engineering); Master's degree preferred;
plus 8-10 years of experience. Medical device experience or other regulated industry experience preferred. Experience in the use of Lean Six Sigma tools highly desirable.
