Material Control Superintendent
This position oversees the logistics associated with deliveries of raw materials, shipments to customers and the scheduling of production to support customer demand, as well as achieving departmental, plant, and divisional operational goals. It also coordinates with Production Manager and North America Planning Team to ensure corporate goals for inventory levels, plant capacity and on-time shipments are achieved. * Comply with all Local, State, Federal and Company regulations and Health and Safety & Environmental policies associated with the transportation, storage and handling of materials. * Ensure warehouse and logistics operations are conducted in a safe manner. Ensure staff is properly trained on use of material handling equipment, loading docks features, automated bar code scanners, and other common warehouse & shipping equipment as well as shipping regulations for Hazmat materials. * Comply with JM protocols in regards to insuring policies associated with shipments and approval of new carriers. * Coach, develop, and provide guidance to members of the Material Control Department. * Ensure that the inventory strategy and approach aligns and supports the overall business plan. * Coordinate with appropriate staff managers to ensure proper rotation of inventory, cycle counts and periodic inventories, avoid stock-out or over-stock situations, and minimize expedited freight costs. * Ensure accurate receipt, in-check, labeling, and storage of all materials stored at the Plant. (Chemicals, Substrate, WIP, Finished Goods, and miscellaneous items). * Using JDE and other systems tools, aid in executing the production schedule and other reports with an efficient material flow in line with operational needs and cost objectives so Production requirements and Material Control operations are promptly and accurately supported. * Interact directly with the Shipping Supervisor at Devon as well as members of JM Sales and Quality Control teams to effectively coordinate the timely delivery of product to customers. Supervises proper preparation, product packaging, loading, and dispatch of product shipments from the plant to external and internal customers. * Review and establish policy and procedures for the Material Control Department. * Track line efficiency metrics and provide regular reports to Smithfield management and the North America Planning Team. Participate in reviews of plant efficiency and scheduling issues with the Production Manager and Planning Team. Communicate issues with the North America Planning Team as required. * Participate in new product launches and notify potential issues associated with the supply, handling and storage of new raw materials. * Monitor and Report effective accountability and utilization of chemicals in the manufacturing process.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required. Degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field highly desired. * Industrial experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, shipping & receiving, planning, and MRP/ERP systems required. Minimum 7 years industrial experience required, 10+ years desired. * 3-5 years supervisory experience. * Specialized training or certification in planning, inventory control, warehouse management, MRP, ERP, Advanced Planning Systems, or supply chain principles (ex: APICS) highly desired. * Strong leadership, organizational and communications skills. * Proven experience with developing and motivating people.
