Job Description Summary:
JOB SUMMARY
General Description

The Materials Test Technician will assist the Chemists to organize and maintain the Material Test and Chemistry Laboratories perform testing to support production, assemble and test various chemicals and production energetic materials under the direction of the Chemists or Lab supervisor also performs data logging and data reduction, assists on production efforts including inspections as assigned and reports detailed data on test results as they are completed.


MAJOR DUTIES

ESSENTIAL

The Material Test Technician sets up and operates instrumentation, performs sample preparation and production testing on energetic materials (e.g., strand burn rate, sensitivity testing, mechanical properties testing, heats of explosion, density, etc.)

Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.

Provide support and assistance to development chemists and engineers.

Prepare chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas.

Maintain, clean, standardize laboratory instruments and equipment.

Monitor and inventory testing materials in order to maintain supplies.

Compile, interpret, report results of tests and analyses.

NON-ESSENTIAL
Desired additional functions:

Conduct sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and products.

Verify in process compliance to controlling specifications for other workers producing chemical products.

Assist in developing new chemical engineering processes or production techniques.

Assist in design and fabrication of experimental apparatus to develop new products and processes.

Physical Demands:

Works with Hazardous Chemicals and energetic materials.

Respirator use will be required on an occasional basis..

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Other requirements: Read and speak English, follow documented procedures
Some coursework in Chemistry or closely related field, experience in a laboratory environment.
High attention to safety and environmental regulations.

Basic Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS
Specific Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

(1) Background and lab experience as a test technician in a chemistry lab in a Chemistry or closely related field.

(2) Ability to read and follow test procedures; ability to prepare legible, accurate and complete data sheets and lab reports.

(3) Experience working with and handling hazardous materials.

(4) Must have good mechanical skills.
