MATERIALS ANALYST - NDT
Title: MATERIALS ANALYST - NDT Location: USA-OH-North Canton Other Locations: This position works directly with or independent of the Materials Engineers and Specialists in support of various projects within the Alloy Steel and B&PT business units. This individual is responsible for individual laboratories, data generated by the equipment within the laboratory and interacts with individuals throughout the corporation in support of their testing requirements.
Specific responsibilities and expectations include:
1. Works directly with or independent of Sr. Materials Engineers and Specialists on their projects and provides engineering support in the areas of ultrasonic testing of specimens, preparation and documentation of ultrasonic testing results through the use of interfaced data analysis programs, and operation of specialized ultrasonic lab equipment.
2. Recognized proficiency, leadership and knowledge in the use of NDT laboratory test equipment and follows standard operating procedures for each piece of equipment to ensure data integrity.
3. Responsible for the daily operation of specialized lab equipment utilizing laser guided encoders, air assisted bearings, and linear drive motors as well as the maintenance and the calibration of this equipment. Maintain contact with equipment vendors and service engineers to maintain the functionality of the equipment through service contracts, maintenance routines, learn new test procedures and make recommendations on equipment upgrades to management.
4. Develop test equipment procedures, conduct training classes for individuals as required and ensure that all safety procedures are being followed. Provides technical data in the correct format and able to perform data analysis through the use of engineering applications without direct supervision.
5. Interpret ultrasonic data to determine test validity and to convey test results to engineering and management personnel not in possession of an NDT background.
6. Process project work flow and direct the work effort of others across departmental lines to meet the project scope requirements. This includes completion of the necessary forms, providing engineering drawings, scheduling and documentation of all process steps, verification of procedures and working with outside vendors as required.
7. Interact with the Sr. Professional staff on all testing procedures and requirements, independent data analysis and make recommendations for future equipment purchases.
8. Proficient with MS Office applications, applicable NDT software interfaces, and mainframe applications in order to provide written reports for completed work assignments to the Sr. Professional staff. Minimum Requirements: * High School/GED and minimum 10 years of related experience. * Maintenance of materials lab equipment and work related experience with metallurgical processes and terminology. * Candidates will be expected to perform independent data analysis and able to report results in written format. * The ability to develop operating procedures and train other team members is necessary.
Preferred: * Associates Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Technology and minimum 5 years of related experience. * Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Technology and minimum 3 years of related experience. * Candidates should possess good interpersonal skills and be able to perform as a motivated team player that can direct work flow across departmental boundaries. * Candidates should be proficient in MS Office skills and familiar with mainframe and/or engineering applications.
