MBTA Technical Writer
The ability to research all available technical resources, design documentation resources, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics, interviewing and communicating with subject-matter specialists and engineering groups to define and provide accurate technical information to accomplish goals in a timely manner. Write complex technical information with clear and concise language communication skills. Follow developed format and techniques for specific maintenance, operating and manufacturer manuals and development of training documentation. This is not a software development project; all developed documentation relates to mechanical and/or electrical systems and associated components requiring experience in such systems and not software development.

Required qualifications:
Years of experience: *At least 4 years of experience as a technical writer with at least 4 years associated with training documentation development. *At least 4 years experience working with desktop publishing and/or word processing tools in a PC environment. *At least 4 years experience with technical publications. *At least 2 years experience with field research and interface with mechanical and/or electronic engineers and technicians. *At least 2 years experience in writing technical documents dealing directly with engineering drawings and schematics as a base development tool. *At least 2 years experience in writing technical documents dealing with mechanical and/or electrical and electronic and/or manufacturing systems background.
Education: *Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Publications or equivalent work experience. An Associate Degree with additional writing experience a consideration based upon proven experience in rail transportation, aircraft, or other manufacturing related fields.
Specialized Knowledge/Expertise: *Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and ability to report to all levels of management on status of projects. *Working in the rail transportation industry a major plus, aircraft industry or other manufacturing environment where high technical expertise required in writing materials at the industry levels. *Proficient in Windows based platforms, software packages such as Word Office, (Framemaker, Pagemaker, Adobe or other software for conversion into Word formats) Graphic Software (CorelDraw, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, etc. for inserting figures into Word formats).
