Mechanical Design Engineer II

Designs new products and makes improvements to existing products. Evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability. Works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure that completion of production documentation is in a timely manner. This position requires a bachelor's degree of science in area of specialty and 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Demonstrate proficiency in the application of commonly used practices and procedures within a particular field. This position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks, works under general supervision and a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Tasks:
Design and Implement cost-effective product modifications to help improve safety, reliability and manufacturing throughput
2. Design and Implement new products to meet requirements per engineering standards and specifications
3. Ensure a product can be made again reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments
4. Generate or update production mechanical models, drawings, assemblies per given engineering standards and specifications
5. Use computer assisted design/drafting (e.g. NX/AutoCAD) software to develop mechanical solutions to liquid flow measurement products
6. Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, raw materials, processes and other physical sciences to complete models and drawings for the product lines
7. Create and process engineering change request and orders
8. Create and Maintain Bill of Material data and release production drawings
9. Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques
10. Communicate effectively with internal departments outside of engineering
11. Investigate product issues and difficulties to identify casual factors make recommendations
12. Present meetings when necessary
Job Requirements
Education / Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school and 2 - 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of ASME standards desired.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Also must possess the ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence.
Reasoning Ability:
Solve simple and complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Develop multiple product concepts or improve existing products. Work with engineers and suppliers to resolve potential design issues.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Possess a high skill level in NX/SolidWorks CAD software and in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Learn new graphic software to compliment NX/SolidWorks CAD.

Be detail-oriented to avoid design errors and omissions.

LOCAL CANDIDATES PREFERRED.

Knowledge:

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance


Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models


Writing: Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the reader


Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications


Systems Evaluation: Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions required to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system
