Job Type :Full Time Career Level :Experienced (Non-Manager) Education :Bachelor's Degree Category :Engineering Job Description : Job Summary Mechanical Designers are responsible for all aspects of mechanical design for new product development projects or providing lifecycle support on existing products. They are an integral member of cross-functional project teams that ensure customer requirements, both internal and external, are met. Typical designs might include microprocessor-based controllers, display clusters, display terminals, sensors, etc..
Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Technical • Review and understand customer requirements and specifications • Participate in developing product specifications • Estimate the design effort and mechanical costs for quote requests • Incorporate sound design practices into all designs • Produce design documentation (3-D models and 2-D drawings) using Pro/E and/or Inventor and Autocad • Develop and design metal cast, plastic injection molded, or sheet metal parts • Develop overlay, membrane switch, fiber-optic backlights, decal designs, etc. • Troubleshoot and resolve design related issues arising from product test and evaluation • Participate in Design Review and DFMEA processes • Work closely with customers, both internal and external, to resolve technical issues on current production components • Participate in analysis of field failures and production problems.
Technical – Specialized The following design activities may be outside of Mechanical Developers’ expertise. However, they are expected to understand the design implication of these subjects: • Thermal Analysis • Stress Analysis • Design Verification and Testing support - Vibration and mechanical shock - Thermal cycling - Environmental sealing issues • Backlighting using optical ray-tracing techniques
Other • Visit vendors as required - be aware of current vendor capabilities - work closely with vendors to resolve technical issues - participate in vendor selection as required by Supplier Quality Engineer. • Understand the cost and time constraints imposed by the project plan on assigned tasks and alert the Project Manager whenever the likelihood of a cost or time overrun becomes apparent. • Provide input for SR&ED reports. • Perform other duties as assigned.

• Continue to enhance skills through reading, mentoring, and training (either external or internal). Job Requirements : • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Technologist diploma, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience. • Should have good knowledge of fundamental mechanical design practices and currently available technologies. • Experience in AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator • Experience with 3-D modelling software; ProE or Inventor experience would be and asset. • Ability to independently research pertinent information; self-motivated. • Excellent problem solving capabilities. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and well developed listening skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills essential to working effectively in a team environment; must also be able to work with
minimal supervision.
