Job Description
Exelon Nuclear is looking for Equipment Operators/Entry-level operations candidates at our Clinton Nuclear Station in Clinton, IL.

Rate: $30.26
Start date is January, 2011
This is a rotating shift position.
This is a union position.
Relocation will not be offered, candidates must be able to commute to the site daily.

The qualified individual will be responsible for the following:

Assigned on a rotating shift basis, acting under prescribed rules and approved practices, to observe, impact and as instructed operate station equipment; to prepare equipment for service and for maintenance; to inspect equipment for proper operation; to take necessary action in emergencies; and to perform related work as assigned.

Typical examples of duties are:
- To observe, inspect, and as instructed, operate such generating station auxiliary equipment as pumps, fans, air compressors, and heat exchangers.
- To inspect and make necessary adjustment on gland seal pressures on main turbine generator units.
- To make routine checks of various equipment in water and steam.
- To inspect and reset relays in auxiliary power centers in the event of automatic trip-out of any auxiliary equipment.
- To operate auxiliary equipment manually when remote control equipment is not connected to the main control panel, or during abnormal conditions.
- To assist as required in performing initial troubleshooting work on control circuit, auxiliary switches, tripping devices on circuit breakers, and level controllers.
- To perform manual switching in auxiliary power centers for all routine maintenance or emergency repairs to electrical equipment.
- To check the operation of feedwater heaters and other secondary plant equipment such as station heating, ventilating and cooling systems.
-To inspect auxiliary power transformers, switchgear, and batteries by checking the temperature of equipment, oil levels in transformers, acid levels in batteries; and to record specific gravity readings and charge batteries as required.
- To operate the water treatment system, involving such work as adjusting feed of chemical feed pumps, preparing chemicals for feed tanks and make-up pretreatment, checking levels in storage tanks, adjusting rates of flow, recording of chemicals used and water meter readings, and making field checks on water samples as assigned.
- To operate oil cleaning and transfer equipment, including checking all levels in reservoirs, backflushing oil coolers, and periodically taking oil samples.
- To inspect brushes on main generator field rings on various motor generator sets; and to check exciter bearings.
- To replace gas cylinders (e.g. hydrogen, nitrogen) on headers; to check the operation of the hydrogen unit gas dryer.
- To maintain cleanliness of equipment and working area.
- To assist in controlling the operation of reactor-turbine generator units by receiving and executing orders from station operators, observing control instruments, and reading meters.
- To observe, inspect and operate reactor, turbine and other station equipment outside of the control room (including starting, stopping and preparing equipment for maintenance).
- To perform electrical operating and switching outside the control room, such as operating disconnects, circuit breakers, and grounding buses; and to take circuits and equipment in and out of service.
- To instruct and train, and to coordinate the work of others.

Required:
High School diploma or equivalent

NOTE: Candidates must meet one of the below preferred criteria

Preferred:

Candidates must possess a Bachelors of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related science program

OR

An Associates of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology or related science program or equivalency*

*Equivalency for the Associate of Science degree is established by meeting the criteria below:

43 credit hours of post secondary education of which 75% (at least 8 courses or 32 hours) is advanced math, physics, chemistry and/or engineering/engineering technology. Transcripts will be required to verify coursework.

OR

Documented training and experience applicable to power generation operating experience while a member of the Nuclear Navy program.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS:

- Candidates must pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS)
Examination
- Score satisfactorily on the Basic Math and Science Test
(BMST)
-Candidate must be able to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear facility as a member of a critical group.
