Description
Responsible for providing technical support to the Wyandotte Polyol Plant (primarily) with projects and responsibilities as appropriate in other Wyandotte Urethanes Divisions plants. Will work in conjunction with production management for the creation of and implementation of process improvements in safety, plant reliability, and efficiency. Provides technical assistance in digital control system troubleshooting, procedure development and operator training.
Principal Responsibilities:: 1. Support plant safety and housekeeping processes. 2. Develop and implement, along with production management, an on-going process improvement plan. The plan will detail specific activities that will result in improvements in safety, quality, plant reliability, cost and efficiency. Responsible to lead and conduct monthly reports for the Process Optimization Team. 3. Conduct process optimization studies to recommend procedural, product or equipment changes needed to improve the process. Also responsible for daily process and quality troubleshooting and for process assistance needed with the transfer of new products. 4. Responsible for gathering background data for root cause investigation for process incidents and equipment reliability issues and for implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. 5. Provide process support to the project engineering group for new projects. 6. Must learn to be familiar with both DCS systems (Foxboro) and the SIS (Triconex) to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of the DCS system and to be able to use the system to gather necessary data for process improvements and process trials and to train others if necessary. 7. Be the production liaison for PHAs. 8. Perform certain job duties of the Production Superintendent and Manufacturing Manager when absent for vacation/business travel (oversee scheduling, plant efficiency/troubleshooting issues) 9. Manage a PDP engineer, when available. 10. Facilitate prioritizing notifications for maintenance to complete and coordinating production shutdowns. Facilitate training on critical safety procedures as necessary.
11. Monitor, troubleshoot and improve environmental controls and systems.

Qualifications
Required: BS Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required, with at least 1-3 years of technical work experience in plant environment. ***BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. A broad knowledge of chemical unit operations. Strong communication, leadership, analytical/problem solving and organizational skills. In addition, strong initiative, attention to detail, and work management skills required in order to manage multiple projects/process improvements simultaneously.
Desired: Process experience. Chemical plant experience. This position is within a job family and will be filled at a level applicable to the incumbent's qualifications.
