OPR 4108 Test Engineer Location: Rockford, IL Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt Employment Type: Full Time Department: 630 Description:
Position Purpose The Test Engineer 1 (level 1) reports to Technical Leadership and whose focus is performing routine functions which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of test engineering tasks. This position requires a moderate to high level of supervision; most work is still reviewed by a more senior engineer. Duties:
Essential Functions
* Works assigned tasks to meet schedule and may coordinate details with other departments. * Recognizes problems that are beyond capabilities and is learning from the experts in the area. * Performs routine functions that require application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. * Designs, supports, and tests low complexity test systems and equipment. Ensures designs meet testability and reliability criteria. * Learns the steps involved to incorporate process improvements. * Produces proposals estimates or quotes for low complexity test deliverables. * Establish processes around instrumentation designs and control of test cell modifications.
Other Functions
* May provide repair and maintenance of test systems. * May fabricate test systems as required. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS * Basic design and implementation of low complex boards, circuits and systems. * Read and create schematics. * Review test plans for instrumentation accuracy and capability. * Maintain consistency facility-wide in test cell control systems and interface. * Spearhead new instrumentation applications and enhance capability. * Design, support, and troubleshooting of instrumentation cabling and data acquisition system modifications. COMPUTER ENGINEER SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS * Develops, tests and supports low complexity software applications with predefined design. * Familiarity with software development and analysis tools including editors, compilers, linkers, debuggers, code analyzers, version control systems, software testing tools etc. * Unit testing, debugging, software/hardware integration with oversight. * Compiles and writes documentation of program development and subsequent revisions. MECHANICAL ENGINEER SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS * May perform CAD design or drafting tasks on test system development projects.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Basic engineering knowledge; basic understanding of component function and testing. Learning manufacturing processes, drawings, and standards. * Effective written/verbal communication skills, basic presentation skills; learning technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.). * Basic problem solving & troubleshooting skills and analytical calculation skills. * Knowledge of or is learning accuracy analyses, instrumentation calibration theory and tolerance stack-ups. * Competent in the use of PCs and associated software. * Effective time management. * Teamwork abilities. * Solid knowledge of physical systems and the physics thereof. * Limited exposure to analytic, modeling, and/or design software/tools as appropriate. * Basic knowledge of appropriate internal information management system (ie. ERP, MRP, PLC and Document Storage system, etc) applications. * � * Knowledge of common instrumentation signals and signal integrity * Ability to learn and gain expert knowledge in PAC programming and ladder logic * Basic understanding of variable speed drive control theory and application. Qualifications:
Education/Formal Training
* Bachelor's degree in Technical/Science or International equivalent required.
Experience
* No professional experience required. Internship in related industry desired. * Experience in instrumentation and/or programmable logic control systems will be recognized during consideration for this position.
