Paper Machine Operator

We are currently seeking Paper Machine Operators to join the growing team at our Harrodsburg, KY location. This is a start-up operation involving the installation of a new Tissue machine. At our Harrodsburg location, employees will have the opportunity to be part of our Tissue segment and will be involved in the manufacturing of Tissue. You will have the opportunity to work with the first paper machine at our Harrodsburg location; this is a state-of-the-art design - a Voith ATMOS machine - and the first complete ATMOS machine in the world! Wausau Paper produces Bay West brand towels, tissue, soap, wipers, and dispensing systems for the away-from-home market. This market includes office buildings, schools and colleges, hotels, factories and industrial facilities, airports, high-traffic facilities, and healthcare facilities.
Position Purpose:
Our Paper Machine Operators fall into one of two categories: Wet End Technicians & Controls Operating Technicians.
Operates the Wet End of the paper machine from the stock approach system through to the Creping Blade. Assists the Control Operating Technician in his duties. Hands on operation and adjustment of wet end equipment in the field. Responsible for wet end laboratory testing. Monitors and controls paper machine clothing.
Controls the Tissue Paper machine process via a Distributed Control System from stock approach, forming, pressing, and drying through to the Dry End of the paper machine. Also has responsibility for monitoring and controlling the operation of a package boiler which supplies steam to the paper machine. Responsible to achieve and maintain paper production to achieve quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost targets.
During the initial Capital installation phase, the position will be responsible for training development and delivery. Scope of training development includes operating work systems, step-by-step procedures, and equipment systems and sub-systems of the paper machine to include DCS control systems. Once developed, this position will then lead in delivering the training in a classroom and hands-on format to the new operating team.
Responsibilities:
? During the Capital installation phase, develop training modules for operating work systems, DCS control processes, step-by-step procedures for machine start-up and shut down, machine change-overs, etc.
? During the Capital installation phase, deliver operator training to the newly hired Operating Team. The training will be in classroom format and hands-on.
? This position is responsible for control of the integrated paper making process from the stock approach system through to the Reel
? Conducts routine tours of the wet end areas of the paper machine
? Performs housekeeping and condition monitoring for the PM wet end
? Charged with safe operation of the machine in regards to other personnel and equipment
? Starts up and shuts down the paper making process
? Makes routine adjustments to maintain quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost standards.
? Follows production schedule and makes paper grade changes.
? Responds to emergency conditions.
? Problem solves out of standard conditions and takes corrective action.
? Coordinates activities of other paper machine crew members
Education & Experience:
? HS Diploma or GED required
? Ten or more years in a paper machine operator role is required (prefer tissue machines).
? Three or more years? experience as a back tender, machine tender or move up desired.
Physical Requirements:
? Work involves moving or lifting of equipment, materials, and tools. Must be able lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
? Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movement within confined areas.
? Must be willing and able to work in all buildings or out of doors in all seasons.
? Operates power tools and equipment.
