PAPER MACHINE SHIFT SUPERVISOR - Toledo, OR
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will oversee operation of three paper machines, two OCC plants, shipping operations and 35 employees on a 12-hour rotating shift focusing on the safe and efficient production of quality linerboard and corrugating medium.
ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Promote the Georgia Pacific Environmental, Health and Safety goals by:
Develop and nurture safety as a core value for all employees
Ensuring employees performances are monitored daily with emphasis on elimination of unsafe acts
Making sure high standards of housekeeping are maintained.
Provide leadership to meet/exceed key operation targets in safety, quality and production.
Maintain effective working relationships with unions and all departments and levels in the organization.
Lead and instill a strong safety culture amongst operators
Monitor controllable costs for paper machine operating supplies and take corrective action as necessary.
Work with operations and shift maintenance to address equipment failures and breakdowns to minimize losses.
Promote operator equipment ownership through operator essential care program.
Use root cause thinking and documentation to effectively get to the source of operational and maintenance issues
Maximize production and cost through fiber usage management
Maintain harmonious relations with employees by accurately administering contract provisions and company policies.
Effectively troubleshoot complex papermaking process issues.
Lead or be a member of teams for continuous improvement efforts.
Keep necessary shift / crew records and reports; follow up on all significant problems.
Be able to work in a team-based environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Paper Science and Engineering, or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of mill production supervisory experience OR
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Excellent leadership, management, problem solving and decision making skills
Excellent communication skills interpersonal, written, and verbal
Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the mill, ascend and descend ladders, and tolerate temperature extremes.
Be available 24 hours by way of home or cellular phone when on-call. Work weekends as scheduled.
Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill position responsibilities
