PLC Technician
General Description:
This position is responsible for the maintenance of electrical production equipment which includes trouble-shooting, repairing, and modifying electrical and instrumentation components throughout the facility.

Essential Functions:
Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computers, computer systems, PLC/machine control systems, hardware and computer peripherals as they relate to the production/floor operations. Plans, develops, and executes projects for small/medium/large determined or assigned process/system improvements. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems. Supports and maintains various production and building control systems including rights, security and core programming. Responsible for setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, programming, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and department specifications. Required to have a working knowledge of several different hardware and hardware-control systems. Requires an associate's degree or its equivalent and/or at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Need to be familiar with a variety of automation-field concepts, practices, and procedures. Experience with Allen-Bradley systems is required including PLC and HMI programming. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Takes direction from written, spoken, and planned work requests. Builds and offers training/mentoring to other impacted departments. Reports to department supervisor. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Being a self-starter is expected and required.. Communicates verbally and in writing to Maintenance & Operations personnel. Decreases the risk of contamination by ensuring work is performed according to USDA and Good Manufacturing Practices requirements; identifies and corrects possible contamination issues; ensures equipment and materials are in accordance with USDA standards; works within OSHA standards.

Personal Qualifications:

A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required, plus 3-5 years of experience in machine systems repair and/or modification with industrial automation and control.
OR
A graduate of an accredited vocational school specializing in industrial automation and control plus 1 year of experience.

Understands and is able to perform the following: PLC programming utilizing Rockwell Software programming family; specification and installation of Allen Bradley PLC hardware including SLC, Micro Logix, Control Logix and Flex I/O families of hardware. Must have working knowledge of distributed I/O architecture and the ability to maintain and establish device net, remote I/O, DH485, DH+, and Ethernet IP communications. Is able to operate and maintain electrical testing, calibration, and repair equipment. Experience with a version of CAD and the ability to create or update drawings is preferred.
Must be able to perform duties and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, follow required maintenance and documentation procedures, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must have valid driver's license and pass a pre-employment drug test.
