Description
Position is responsible for Power Electronics hardware design of new products and support of existing products. These products are a combination of power electronics, controls and electro-mechanical components used for Plasma Cutting Systems. Position will interface/work with Hardware, Software, Mechanical, Plasma process, Regulatory, Test Engineers and have technician level support for tasks.
Responsibilities * Hands-on product design of Power Systems which includes: * Power Designs that utilize Power Factor Correction, Forward, Buck, and Bridge Inverter Topologies with output ranges of 25 -150 amp/300v. * Selection of Power Devices (IGBT’s, MOSFET’s, etc.) * Application of analog and digital circuit design at component level, part selection, and working with PCB designer. * Properly designing for isolation interface (analog current sensors, opto isolators, gate drive etc.), and low noise systems. * System and hardware design with real time embedded control modules (Analog PWM and DSP based firmware design). * Design and specify magnetic components. * Work with Mechanical Engineer in the area of thermal management and mechanical enclosure of power electronics including power and control devices such as PCB’s, magnetics, heatsinks and cooling fans. * Specify and design electrical items including Wire harnesses, Power Cords, Relays etc * Work regulatory requirements into design requirements. * Assist in stress testing and accelerated testing methodology of System (Environmental Stress Test and HALT) * Develop documentation for Source Control Drawings, Schematics, Ass’y drawings, Parts drawings, Magnetic drawings, and BOM at all levels. * Assist in Product and Service Manual Documentation * Assist in Product Support of Existing products in area’s of: Production Problems, Finding sources for obsolete devices, and create ECO’s documents. Educational / Experience Requirements:
Education & Experience: · BSEE in Power Electronics and 3+ years design experience in a related industry. MSEE highly desirable. Familiar with the following design tools: · EDA tools such as Altium. · Analog circuit modeling such as P-SPICE. · VHDL and Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) · MATLAB or SCILAB · C programming language (nice to have). Familiar with: · Electrical and electronic testing, analysis tools and instrumentation. · Design for manufacturability. · Able and willing to work in a team-oriented environment, and must have excellent communication skills.
