The position is responsible for providing leadership and technical expertise to a group of power, electrical and software control engineers and technicians. Highly visible project leadership role in assuring successful completion and implementation of product development projects by leading cross-functional project teams in the development of key next generation plasma cutting products. Must provide the needed high level technical direction in product designs, manage cost targets, develop / track schedules, and facilitate the projects introduction into production. A key participant in providing engineering and strategic product guidance to the Engineering and Business Team’s planning process and building organizational capabilities. Responsibilities * Direct reporting responsibilities for a group of power, electrical and software design engineers and technicians in all activities relating to performance and skill development. * Direct technical knowledge and / or hands-on experience in most of the following engineering areas: * Power supply inverter technologies: Flyback, Forward, Buck, Power Factor Correction and Inverter (25-150 amp/300v range) * Real time control modules (Analog PWM, CPLD, microprocessor and DSP based firmware design * Understanding of thermal management and mechanical packaging design of power electronics. * Understanding and experience with meeting product regulatory and safety requirements. * Responsible for the development of project plans that define the development direction for cross-functional projects on the Business Team and provide the necessary leadership in their execution. * Ensure the closure and resolution of all cross-functional technical issues across the Business and Functional Teams. * In the execution of projects provide technical leadership guidance in the areas of power, digital control, mechanical electronic packaging, torch / plasma process and manufacturing to assure they meet the expected project plan – related to specific product development projects. * Maintain organizational priorities by building consensus between competing interests and needs by facilitating the necessary decisions. * Drive the project team on design requirements, cost, schedule, and to negotiate and manage resources with the appropriate functional teams to assure they meet project requirements. Provided needed project level technical and strategic direction. * Work closely with Marketing to assure products meet Marketing / Engineering specifications and a successful launch process (manuals, brochures, service, etc.). * Discuss and communicate project status to project team members and Business Teams Leaders resulting in influencing direction/decision/outcomes. Present necessary product briefings and prepare phase reviews. * Build and sustain project team spirit / drive; works to resolve differences and conflicts; initiates efforts to overcome project team barriers; acts as a facilitator to ensure project team interaction is effective and results-oriented. * Provide input to the technology strategy process for the Manual Team and provide necessary project management of expected technology projects. * Utilize and advance the application of the latest technologies, architectures, and tools to enhance product reliability and increased development productivity. * Develop and manage budgets for facility, capital, expense, and project management. Required Qualifications Education / Experience: * Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or power engineering. Advanced degree highly desirable. * Minimum 8 years of engineering and industry related experience. * Minimum 2 years experience managing and developing engineers in a direct reporting role. Knowledge and Skills: * Experience with project level directing and leading engineers, cross-functional disciplines, and a strong technical background with electronic / mechanical type products. * The ability to work as a team player and communicate effectively. * Project Management skill – includes activities related to the general management and organization of projects from inception to completion (schedule development and planning, work task flow, etc.). * Time management and delegation skills.
