Position Overview: * To set up and operate complex manual & CNC metal fabrication machines (saws, shears, brakes, punch / drill presses, etc. in accordance with quality / quantity standards; trains other employees in all CNC machine and department operations. Duties & Responsibilities: * The Machine Operator-3 reviews shop operations packets and engineering drawings to insure that incoming material to be fabricated is correct. * Based on production specifications and / or Group Leaders instructions, selects & sets-up tools, equipment and machines required for quality production. * Reviews machine tooling requirements and plans set-up / operations to optimize flow of work through the Cell / department. * Programs CNC machine using process flow sheet processing steps and tooling sequence. * Edits CNC programs as required to attain optimal quality / quantity production. * As specified inspects and dimensionally checks production to insure production output meets requirements. * Utilizes properly calibrated precision measuring instruments when performing inspections. * Makes machine / tooling adjustments and CNC programming changes to bring non-conforming out-put into specifications. * Informs the Group Leader / Supervisor of any operating or material condition that would interfere with quality / quantity production. * The incumbent performs routine operator maintenance & operational checks on all departmental tools & equipment, to include: tool sharpening, machine oiling, fluid replacement / pressure checks, safety switch functioning etc. * The Machine Operator segregates and periodically disposes of scrap material into approved collection containers. * In performing assigned duties, lifts / moves up to and including 75 lbs. * Standing, walking, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and climbing are all required motions of the job. * Operates material handling equipment when moving materials into, around, or out of the department. * Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. * Trains others in job functions as required. * Receives daily direction and support from the Team Leader / Supervisor. * Performs all work in accordance with acceptable quality standards. * Performs all work in a safe manner, to include proper use of personal protective equipment. * Maintains an accurate record of all work performed in the appropriate company format / form. * Maintains work area, tools and equipment in a neat, clean and orderly manner. Education & Work Experience: * Ability to read & write (High School or equivalent) needed to comply with written instructions and complete departmental paperwork * Five years previous experience in a sheet metal fabrication facility and familiarity with metric blueprint dimensioning preferred. * Must be a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15.
