Dow Kokam is the first advanced battery manufacturer to combine viable, scalable technology, manufacturing expertise and market knowledge necessary to become the clear partner of choice for automakers and suppliers. Dow Kokam can leverage its expertise with proven battery technology, ability to quickly ramp up manufacturing, and the relationships and backing from Dow Chemical, to immediately supply the auto industry for its current needs, and also advance solutions for the next generation of battery technology.
Responsibilities:
Provide electrical engineering interface to customers for the proper packaging, interface, and reliability of both battery cells and packs. Cascade system level customer requirements to electrical specifications and requirements of the battery cell or pack. Primary design & release responsibility for battery pack electrical components including DVMS, powerbox, IC boards, connectors, wiring, etc. Proactively drive & secure intellectual property including invention disclosures, case filings, and office actions related to electrical systems and components. Lead regional supplier development for electrical components. Lead manufacturing interface for electrical issues and related assembly requirements & design optimization. Take conceptual designs through customer sourcing, design development, product validation, manufacturability, and launch Communicate and interact with other engineering staff who are responsible for developing cells and packs including: concepts, prototypes and working production units Coordinate and conduct design verification testing at component, subsystem, and system level. Develop detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans. Lead program specific cell or pack development to insure components and systems meet program targets for technical attributes, design, cost, quality, etc. Drive APQP process for electrical components. Support Cell & Pack Applications engineer with concern resolution for electrical components Prepare & present technical papers externally, and properly document all technical learning internally.
Requirements:
B.S., M.S. or PhD in Electrical / Controls Engineering or equivalent Minimum 5 years experience in design / release of electrical systems into the automotive market Proven experience in high power electronics. Familiar with vehicle CAN and/or FlexRay communications protocol. Knowledge of HEV, PHEV, or EV vehicle programs, and in battery cell integration a plus Experience in evaluating material, designing and conducting tests preferred. Proven experience in the product development process at Tier 1 and/or OEM level. Experience in leading projects through the complete product development cycle International project leadership/teamwork skills a plus Proficient at scoping and developing detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills ? position requires strong interaction in multi-functional team environment especially cross-functionally within Dow Good skills in written and spoken English required Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative to find solutions to technical challenges Must demonstrate expertise in designing with a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes. Must demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency with creative problem solving methods. Good understanding of industry design and documentation standards Awareness of product cost engineering & product liability
