Product Development Technician- SBU Temp - Body Hardware Lab
The Product Development Technician is responsible for supporting test requests that are critical to the Body, Interior, Exterior, and Hardware communities. Typical tasks include Vehicle assembly/dis-assembly, test fixture conceptualization and fabrication, test setup and monitoring, part removal and replacements, test tear-downs, and interaction with Lab and Release Engineers. Support Body Hardware Lab Engineers with the following full vehicle and component level testing: All body closure panel (hoods, lift-gates, doors, deck-lids, tailgates, etc.); structural (ambient) and environmental chamber; vehicle air leak / air flow; side step cycle; endurance check stop; power sliding door slam; power lift-gate slam; pedal load cycling; park brake cycling; door systems w/simulated seal load; body hardware closure; complete vehicle water sealing; haul-away shipping tie down cycle; window cycle; fixture development & parts changing; spare tire cycle test; BUX tie-down point strength and access.
This is a 2nd shift technician position in the Body Hardware Test Lab.
Basic Qualifications: • Strong overall vehicle knowledge and mechanical skills
• Fixture and bracket fabrication skills
• Shop skills including table saw, band saw, grinders, sanders, drill press, press brake, pneumatic tools, etc.
• Machine shop skills: lathe, welding of aluminum and steel
• Ability to work in environmental extremes (-20 deg to 180 deg and high humidity) also required
• Test monitoring skills
• Ability to work overtime as required
• Highly motivated and strong work ethic required
Preferred Qualifications: • 1-5 years of experience in testing
• Familiarity with electro-dynamic vibration shakers and pneumatic test equipment
• Experience with test controllers, instrumentation and sensors desired
• Strong communication skills
• Great attitude and proven abilities
• Experience with strain gaging and calibration beneficial
