General Requirements

Duties
Provide team support to staff with direction and leadership to meet the objectives and goals of their department.  This includes making sure they understand what their jobs entail, solve problems, conduct and support staff hiring and software training, scheduling, performance evaluations, goal establishment, ensuring adherence to department policies and procedures. Observe, track and record the success in training and promoting professional development of staff, identifying skill levels and establishing and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.  Provide overall communication to their issues and concerns to upper-level management.
Responsible for ensuring completion of multimedia publication projects including coordinating work among graphic artists, editor, quality control editor (proofreader), and writers; ensuring that interim and final deadlines are met; ensuring even and equitable distribution of projects among production staff members; ensuring that publications are error free (print and web versions); preparing print and graphics jobs for GPO and outside vendors; tracking the status of assignments; communicating with Service Advisors through the COTR about their projects. Publication projects include but are not limited to reports, brochures, posters, flyers, fact sheets, newsletters, forms, reports, tables and presentations using current professional publication software in both Macintosh and PC (Microsoft Windows) operating environments.
Responsible for supervising and assigning work to the graphic designers, writers, editor and quality control editor.  Organize and prioritize work effectively and communicate completion schedules based on a given workload. Collaborate with COTR to evaluate the needs of each project, assess the best methods to attain the customer's requirements, and coordinate work among staff.  Ensure products are reviewed by the quality control editor or other appropriate staff and are error-free; prepare print and graphic jobs for GPO and outside vendors. Track and post the status of assignments.
Required Skills

Bachelors degree and 10 years experience as a production coordinator/program manager managing a graphic design studio or as an advertising staff art director.  Experience directing designers in the layout and production of high-quality public outreach graphics and printing projects. Possess the ability to coordinate the efforts of writers, editors and proofreaders, and to interpret and transmit instructions between editors and Government liaison.  Provide expertise and experience in offset and screen printing processes and production methods for process and spot color, including the planning and writing of specifications for printing projects; experience in writing printing specifications for GPO projects.  Knowledge of and ability to write specifications for production of exhibit graphics, posters and banners by outside vendors.
