Production Operator - 1st Shift




Position Summary: This position is responsible for running assigned production parts on various plastic injection molding presses and other related production equipment including in process inspection, packaging and completion of required documentation.  Communicate with support areas to ensure raw materials and other WIP (work in process) are needed to make production on a daily basis.  This position will also be cross-trained in other functional areas within manufacturing.



This position is temporary with the possibility of becoming permanent.



Essential duties and responsibilities which must be performed in order to carry out the position purpose summarized above.



  • Safety (daily requirements): Follow all company safety procedures in the completion of job duties.  Perform safety start-ups at the beginning of the shift (machine guards, chemical storage/handling, signage, etc.) are in place and functioning prior to releasing equipment for production.  Wear PPE required for job function. Participate in 6S events in department and throughout the facility.  Sustain 6S standards through good housekeeping and execution of standard work.
  • Quality (daily requirements): Using posted work instructions inspect product for required quality standard and assemble and/or package finished products.  Ensure accuracy of product and carton counts on a daily basis. Count, pack, tape and stack finished cartons per work instructions.  If required for product, verify the accuracy of the date code applied to product and/or master carton.  Document hourly production information on the workstation’s process monitor.  Report any scrap, rework or quality problems and/or equipment problems to the department supervisor/line lead immediately.  Ensure the proper documentation is posted for the deviation before making changes to the DPR for production run.
  • Productivity (daily requirements): Verify all raw materials, component parts, cartons and labels are available at the workstation to be used to complete the daily production assignment per the bill of material and daily DPR (daily production report). Assist with packaging and palletizing of finished products.  Rework non conforming products as assigned and complete necessary documentation.
  • Lean: Utilize LEAN Thinking in formal and informal settings including participating in LEAN Events (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Projects, Just-Do-It), submitting Suggestions, attending LEAN Training, and improving work cell/areas of responsibility daily.  Use visual tools and display boards and update them as appropriate.  Document all changes resulting from LEAN activities according to ISO guidelines.  Accept and embrace change necessary for continuous improvement.
  • Shift transition (daily requirements): During 30 minute overlap clean up workstation, supplying next shift with materials needed, communicate issues & concerns for oncoming shift.
  • Teamwork (daily requirements): Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers by willingness to take on additional responsibility and/or support as assigned.  Solve problems as a team using the 8D approach.
  • Communication (daily requirements): Maximize the production performance with effective communication skills in a timely manner.  Communicate with support areas to ensure raw materials needed are available to make production on a daily basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • English fluency (both written and verbal) with the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and written procedures.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment to meet operational deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated team building skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Basic math skills and effective problem solving abilities required.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Rework and inventory control procedures.
  • Flexibility and dependability necessary to meet operational demands of 24 hour operation.
