Job Description

Primary Function: Direct and supervise department operations while ensuring throughput, productivity, cycle time and quality goals are met.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Employee Relations
a. Responsible for employee reviews:
i. Quarterly Session C
ii. Yearly Performance Review
iii. Grade System
b. Responsible for employee accountability:
i. Setting department goals and expectations.
ii. Setting individual goals and expectations.
iii. Ensure employees are in compliance with company policy.
iv. Hiring, scheduling, directing and developing employees.
v. Disciplinary action up to and including termination when necessary.
vi. Employee timekeeping.
c. Responsible for employee training:
i. Instill safe work behaviors in employees. Train in use of PPE and safe work practices
ii. Conduct Weekly Safety Meetings
iii. Procedure Review / Training
iv. Lean Training (Stinky Chicken)

2. Planning
a. Communicate with lead to prioritize daily work taking into account exceptions to standard work flow (i.e. development, engineering, expedite, etc.)
b. Plan production taking into consideration area and plant level activities and constraints.
c. Proactively cooperate between departments and share resources when needed to meet plant goals and objectives.
d. Effectively utilize employee skill sets to complete work tasks efficiently.
e. Meet internal/external customer requirements to deliver product on time and within specification.

3. Process Control
a. Responsible for quality within the department.
i. Review and respond to Cost of Defects
ii. Zero past due CARs
iii. Quality Information Alerts (QIA)
iv. Disposition scrap daily
b. Responsible for creating and updating department procedures.
c. Responsible for department techniques.
d. Review and control process parameters.

4. Process Improvement
a. Initiate and implement strategy to improve all key metrics for area of responsibility.
b. Maintain 2% improvements on productivity (VC/ESH).
c. Meet and exceed productivity (ESH) goals set for department.
d. Validate ESH for the department.
e. Maintain cycle time (Inventory Levels) at or below set goal.
f. Work with engineers to improve design issues, procedures, and techniques.
g. Setup lean systems including visual workflow, 5s, visual replenishment, etc.

5. Other Duties
a. Complete safety reporting (STOP observations, accident investigations, accident reports. etc.)
b. Actively support all management policies, programs, and procedures.
c. Perform other duties of greater or lesser complexity as required by the position or assigned by management.

Required Experience

Minimum Job Requirements:

1. Degree in technical or business related field or equivalent experience.
2. Ability to work in a production environment.
3. Understand and adopt lean manufacturing principles.
4. Ability to motivate co-workers.
5. Previous manufacturing experience.
6. Experience with interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and terminating employees.
7. Able to read and comprehend English.
8. Able to multi-task under pressure.
9. Good organizational skills.
10. Detail oriented.
11. Ability to prioritize.
12. Team player.
13. Willing to continuously learn.
14. Able to trust his/her own judgment.
15. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
