QUALITY ASSURANCE INSPECTOR

The QA Inspector position performs detailed inspections (raw materials, WIP and finished goods), coordinates with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Manufacturing personnel to effectively resolve problems related to product design, materials, specifications, and/or manufacturing operations, and maintains required quality documents and records, etc. Primary duties include inspecting material, in process-visual/dimensional weld inspections, final inspection and test, nonconforming material control, maintaining QC documentation and calibration. The ideal candidate will have 5 years experience in welding inspection in an ASME Code environment and have a solid understanding of quality control methodology (7 quality tools, ISO 9001, statistics, FMEA, GR&R, etc). AWS CWI and ASQ CQI preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Facilitates the achievement of quality and manufacturing objectives through:
An in-depth knowledge of the Company’s product, engineering and manufacturing capabilities as well as a comprehensive understanding of Peerless’ customer base, those customers’ requirements and ASME Code; performs detailed inspections (raw materials, WIP and finished goods) and accepts/rejects product in accordance with predetermined specifications/requirements; maintains detailed documents/records/files accordingly.
Coordinates with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Manufacturing personnel to effectively resolve problems related to product design, materials, specifications, and/or manufacturing operations.
Maintains an active and thoughtful communication pattern with colleagues, customers, vendors, and/or third party inspectors.
Responds proactively to requests or concerns in a manner that builds trust and confidence not only with the customer, but colleagues within Peerless Mfg. Co. who are partners in the problem solving process.
Ensures all QA policies, procedures, directives and systems are in compliance with company and/or applicable federal regulations; continually strives to increase the level of quality assurance within the facility.
Maintains control of all nonconforming material, follows up on nonconforming material to assure the timely closure of nonconformance reports.
Performs calibrations and/or maintains the calibration system.
Maintains Peerless, Customer or Regulatory required quality records.
Assists in preparing or revising procedures, work instructions and forms as needed.
Actively supports the Company’s QA and Human Resource needs by identifying and fulfilling individual and system level training requirements, to include corresponding records as they relate to inspectors and operators.
Works closely with the management team and implements “best practices" as related to cost of quality.
Administers and supervises all pre-employment and job specific weld tests; recommends skilled employees to the Plant/General Manager and Human Resources for hire based upon weld test results.
Will perform other duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

E-mail resume to: Five (5) years of experience related to QA inspection to include extensive knowledge of ASME Code, NDE, and general welding processes/techniques; CWI certification preferred.
Experience with the seven quality tools, basic statistical techniques and analysis (average, range, standard deviation, control charting, process capability), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), understand fundamentals of cost of quality, familiar with flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, PDCA.
Knowledge of basic shop math, algebra, geometry, metric system (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentage, rounding, English/Metric conversions, basic algebra to solve for the unknown, calculate angles, lengths).
Able to use tape measures, calipers, micrometers, indicators, protractors, squares, pin gages, thread gages, go/nogo gages, weld inspection gages and other hand held/surface plate inspection gages. Understands gage selection (10:1 rule) and basic gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R). Exposure to coordinate measuring machines a plus.
Familiar with calibration systems, including basic purpose, determining calibration intervals, recordkeeping, etc.
Proficiency reading and interpreting complex fabrication drawings.
Working knowledge of business related software packages (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, etc.); exposure to MRP/ERP systems preferred.
High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience or training/education, however attained.
