Description

QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN

GP's Leaf River Cellulose Quality Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of “Quality Control Technician.” Work schedule is day schedule with the exceptions of shift coverage for shift Quality Control Technicians who are out for vacation and personal holidays and occasional required overtime. The successful candidate would start at entry level pay and be expected to rapidly advance to the maximum skill level for the position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent
*
Eligible to work in the United States
*
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screen
*
Willingness to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
*
Willingness to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods (lifting, walking, climbing, pushing, twisting, stooping)
*
Willingness to work in elevated work environments
*
Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds routinely
*
Willingness to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations
*
Willingness to wear necessary Personal PRotective Equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, hard hat, steel toe boots/shoes)
*
Willingness to work in a tobacco free environment
*
Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement as condition of employment
*
2+ years experience working in an industrial or laboratory setting
*
Basic computer skills and extensive experience in MS Office suite, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
*
Ability to comprehend complex work instructions and ability to express self in both written and oral communications.
*
Minimum of either 4-yr BS degree which includes at least a year of chemistry or 2-yr Associate degree in a field of science plus a minimum of 2 yrs work experience in an industrial lab setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITITES
*
Responsible for all quality lab testing, grade assignment, sample collection, lab maintenance, lab equipment calibrations and preventive maintenance, product inspections, maintenance of pest control program, TAPPI lab testing and reporting (PFIbeater testing).
*
Expected to become anISOinternal auditor.
*
Position is normally a day job (8 hrs/day, Monday – Friday). However, overtime and/or shift work is occasionally required to fill in for vacations and personal holidays for shift Quality Control technicians.
*
Backs up the Lead Quality Control technician.
*
Complete special tasks as assigned by supervision, including cleanup.
Physical Demands/Unusual Working Conditions
Periodic rotating 12 hours shifts. The pest control program activity requires working outside – sometimes in inclement weather conditions. Periodic standing/walking for 12 hours during specialty pulp trial work is required. Requires safely climbing stairs and ladders and working at elevated locations. Must be able to safely lift and carry items of up to 30 lbs. Work environment is often hot and humid.
