Industrial Super Abrasives Division is seeking a Technician who will primarily perform specialized technical laboratory experiments related to manufacturing of vitrified, resin, metal composite products at the Northborough Research & Development Center (NRDC) leading to novel superabrasive products and processes. Activities will include (not restricted to) formulation of mixsheets - excel based, mixing, molding, efficient use of laboratory furnaces/ ovens, Proficient in characterization of composites (Density, Wear test, Modulus, Microscopy, Hardness etc.), documentation in the form of reports, spreadsheets, operating procedures, maintaining lab notebooks and systematic in submission and timely follow-up of testing samples. Additional responsibilities will include set-up, maintaining and trouble-shooting equipment and assuring compliance with our safety, chemical inventory and 5S programs. This position will also play a key role in transferring new technology into commercially viable products with high yields of manufacturing. The work involved includes the operation of laboratory and factory equipment related to manufacture and evaluation of all types of super-abrasive products, working closely with the manufacturing facility at Worcester, MA. Moderate travelling between Northboro and Worcester will also be desired.

COMPETENCIES: Interested candidates should possess an associate degree or certification in science or engineering technology or a high school diploma with 5+ years industrial/ laboratory experience. The preferred candidate should have experience or be able to demonstrate an aptitude in math, chemistry, composite manufacturing techniques and composite characterization and should be willing to explore new areas of research and development. Hands on experience with general laboratory tasks, engineering procedures and equipment are required. Computer skills should include familiarity with spreadsheet and word processing programs such as Microsoft - Excel and Word. Good laboratory practices are required to maintain a safe, clean and organized workplace; and to generate accurate data. Candidates should have good communications skills and be able to work with minimum supervision. The candidate should effectively work in a team and team environment for various projects also one should be able to contribute at individual level to improvise daily activities. Highly motivated and willing to work towards set goals and objectives in a safe and effective manner. Candidate should also be organized, flexible and able to accommodate a diversified work load. Candidate must be able to lift heavy loads on occasion.
