The Senior Systems Engineer designs, develops and tests all aspects of a signaling system built to customer specifications and other contract requirements. This position provides direction to technicians and assigns tasks as necessary. This position provides technical support to customers. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Engineering Manager Supervises: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities; however, assigns work to sub teams during projects. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Develops signal circuit designs. B. Checks signal circuit design of other engineers. C. Distributes CADD work or detail work to technicians assigned to the project. D. Designs tie-in circuits for existing locations. E. Maintains drawing version control. F. Troubleshoots problems with signal circuit designs. G. Reviews design and material submittals. H. Attends weekly project meetings. I. Provides input for assigned tasks at project meetings. J. Creates signal circuit drawing typicals. K. Participates in progress meetings with customer. L. Initiates RFIs (requests for information) for customer. M. Checks Bills of Material. N. Informs other engineers of any changes that affect the signal system design. O. Makes necessary design changes when project requirements change. P. Documents Design with ISO forms. Q. Verifies required ISO documentation for project. R. Assists Engineering Management and Project Management on scheduling and addressing any issues relevant to the project. S. Builds/maintains information on EXCEL spreadsheets or MSWORD documents. T. Writes factory and field-test procedures. U. Checks relay house power and load requirements. V. Reviews project specifications and drawings. W. Advises customer of conflicts or issues with the project specifications. X. Implements any design changes required due to responses to RFIs. Y. Recommends design changes, or changes to specification requirements, to customer when necessary. Z. Performs factory and field-testing. AA. Coordinates testing and technicians during factory and field-testing. BB. Writes field-test reports. CC. Assists with preparing estimating for new projects based on specifications and drawings provided. DD. Troubleshoots circuit problems during factory and field-testing. EE. Identifies possibilities for contract change orders. FF. Provides input for engineering hours and material requirements for change orders. GG. Implements necessary design changes required by a change order. HH. Identifies possible safety issues within the scope of the project. II. Gathers, analyzes, checks and reviews the design requirements to ensure match with customers' specifications. JJ. Attends Company and industry-related meetings, as required. KK. Establishes individual goals which are aligned with the Company's business strategies and objectives. LL. Functions as a contributing member of the department's team and other teams, as assigned. MM. Assists the department in the accomplishment of the team's goals. NN. Performs other duties as assigned. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE A. Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering and industry information. D. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. E. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. F. Ability to occasionally reach 2-3 feet, grip and torque. G. Ability to occasionally climb 10-50 feet up ladders or on stairway. H. Ability to manipulate necessary office equipment, computers and peripherals. WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS A. This position requires working both the internal and external environment. Activities occur inside and outside and position will be subject to changes in temperature. B. This position will be exposed to many physical hazards and equipment where special training and safety considerations are required. C. This position has frequent exposure to noise, vibration, moving equipment, and various environmental conditions such as chemicals, fumes, poor lighting, dust and/or oil, concrete floors, elevated steel and railroad tracks. D. This position requires working nights, weekends or non-regular hours to meet deadlines. E. This position requires frequent travel.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING A. Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. B. Ten or more years of experience. C. Knowledge of equipment used on projects - Familiarity with Transit and Safetran parts. D. Experience with Autocad and Microstation CADD. E. Strong math and logic skills. F. Knowledge of Ladder logic programming. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT A. General office equipment including, but not limited to printers and copiers. B. Computer, peripherals and the Microsoft Office software.
