Shift SupervisorTracking Code20120028Job Description Under the supervision of the Production Superintendent, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the paper machines and supporting functions. The shift supervisor will effectively lead machine crews to ensure that all products are manufactured in a safe, timely and cost effective manner in accordance with Sonoco Products policies and customer specifications. The safety and health of employees take precedence over any other duties of this position. Primary Responsibilities: * Leads daily Pre-shift crew meetings emphasizing safety, quality & production schedule for the day. * Directs daily work activities of machine and stock prep personnel assigned to their shift including setting daily work expectations and manufacturing product as scheduled. * Actively participates in all mill safety activities including leading hourly safety meetings. Performs daily safety discussions with hourly employees. * Effectively understands the paper making process and demonstrates ability to troubleshoot the process. * Observes and instructs crew members as needed to ensure that the paper making process is safe and efficient. * Reviews customer complaints with team members and takes corrective actions to eliminate reoccurrence. Makes customer visits as necessary. * Works with Quality Coordinator to identify root causes of quality issues and determine corrective actions for the root causes. * Responsible for daily production schedule to plan work and assign duties as necessary to maximize efficiency of equipment and personnel * Assists in developing operators and personnel through one on one coaching and conflict resolution with assistance from Production Supt. * Administers daily crew reports including production reports, hourly time cards, attendance recording, vacation time and discipline. * Able to communicate in a clear, concise manner with all levels of the organization including setting and communicating expectations for their direct reports.Required Skills Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Education: Four year undergraduateRequired Experience Required Experience: Five years Preferred Experience: Paper Mill experience at or above backtender level, preferably 10 years experienceJob LocationHolyoke, MA USPosition TypeFull-Time/Regular Business Unit Paperboard Specialties
