We are currently seeking a Shipping Manager for our Battle Creek Mill and is overall responsible to supervise and coordinate the shipping process of product from production to the customer. This individual's responsibility is to ensure that facility shipping goals are met in a safe manner to service the customer?s needs. The Shipping Manager will oversee loading of product into trailer for shipment to efficiently meet deadlines in a timely manner and is the key communicator between production, shipping, drivers and customer. This person is accountable for accuracy of shipping documents and to report any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Promotes safety, quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction in the shipping process. 2. Schedule shipments with common carriers. 3. Prepares shipping schedules, plans, reports, quotes, etc. 4. Coordinates with production, sales, customer service, etc. to ensure efficient delivery. 5. Responsible for directing and coordinating the work of personnel in all aspects of shipping (loading product onto trailer, coordinating driver hours, filtering questions, coordinate orders run short/late/bad, etc) 6. Troubleshoots shipping process and provide customer assistance as needed. 7. Negotiate with vendors for services, negotiating the best service guarantee 8. Facilitate coordination of loads from production, loading of trailers, and ultimately the customer Incorporates and maintains safety observances, including but not limited to, use of all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and promoting good safety practices and habits. 9. Troubleshoot production/shipping discrepancies with production supervisor 10. Assist in providing support relating to shipment problems. Investigates problems and determines the best course of action to resolve the issue. 11. Communicates goals and objectives, applies company policies, staffs, trains, develops group skills in operational excellence by coaching, recommends salary increases, administers discipline, ensures positive employee relations, administers employee performance reviews and develops/monitors personal development plans. 12. Conducts daily meetings with their Scheduler to discuss schedule, current issues and safety related issues. 13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills: Education and/or Experience Bachelor?s degree preferred. High school education with 3 ? 5 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Organizational skills and aptitude are necessary to provide efficient service in a timely manner. Knowledge of Transplace and J.D. Edwards a definite plus.
