Sr Prcs Impvmnt Ldr -Converting - E01-E07 Tracking Code 20100088 Job Description The successful candidate will lead and drive productivity/process improvement and major divison/inter-divisional initiatives for GIM-Converting. Primary Responsibilities: * Performs solo/paired safety observations during plant visits, and shares findings and recommendations with plant leadership team. Leads ad-hoc safety teams, as assigned by NAC Safety Council. Leads/conducts unannounced safety audits, prepares detailed audit reports, and reviews results with plant leadership team. * Leads/manages/provides critical support for key GIM/inter-divisional/division initiatives, such as plant consolidations, Sonoco Performance System (SPS) implementation and sustainment, and major new product and growth implementations. Prioritizes, organizes and leads project specific resources and demonstrates superior Project Management and Leadership skills. * Provides leadership as productivity champion to the regions/plants in the Industrial Group for productivity/process improvement strategies and plans, and leads/manages the implementation of assigned initiatives. Leads/facilitates, with division/region/plant leadership, the development of annual productivity/process improvement goals and objectives. Analyzes process entitlement and cost performance to identify improvement opportunities. * Identifies, and leads the design and development of, productivity and process improvement initiatives, strategies, processes and tools (eg. Winding Entitlement, Adhesive Delivery). Is responsible for developing and leading the deployment and control plans for same. Provides division/regional/plant tactical planning and support to achieve and sustain results for respective strategies. * Demonstrates superior use of complete Lean and 6 Sigma toolkit (and other necessary skills) to improve productivity, lower costs and reduce scrap. Demonstrates expertise in plant flow assessment and alternatives comparison (including layout tools) to minimize waste and optimize the plant Value Stream. Achieves certification as a Lean Expert and as a Six Sigma Black Belt. * Identifies new technology, leverages technology from other Industrial Group locations, and helps develop regional/division technology strategies. Leads and/or provides guidance for the research, justification analysis and development of capital authorization requests, and manages capital projects as needed. * In conjunction with Group/Division/plant support teams, leads/conducts Plant Assessments (eg. Rapid Plant Assessment (RPA) and Margin Improvement Process (MIP)) to identify improvement opportunities. Develops prioritized improvement action plans, based on assessment findings, which include responsibilities, resources and timing. * Leads/supports teams to assess/identify/qualify/implement Customer focused improvements. * Leads and supports Standard Work For Leaders (SWFL) process implementation. * Provides Process Engineering leadership/support to global Industrial operations, and coordinates with other GIM Engineering and Technology resources as required. * Develops specific skills in key areas, such as SWFL facilitation, root cause analysis, MIP, and team skills (conflict resolution, team effectiveness, etc.) Uses and teaches these skills to train and develop others in the Manufacturing organization/plants to effectively lead and manage local projects and initiatives. Provides on-going coaching/mentoring. * Manages multiple plant/regional/division projects, and supports division process improvement teams, as needed. * Works with plant employees to establish standard work instructions and control plans, for respective projects and events, to ensure long-term sustainable improvements. * Leverages manufacturing best practices and good ideas – communicates and maintains records of same. * Provides interim Plant Manager coverage, and provides training/coaching for new Plant Managers, as requested. * May be focused in specific divisions and geographic regions, or may lead/support key initiatives throughout the Global Industrial Manufacturing group. * Supports Key GIM initiatives, and the implementation of the Manufacturing Excellence Vision deployment for GIM operations, as needed. Required Skills Minimum Position Requirements: * BS Degree, preferrably in Engineering or Sciences * Project Management experience, multiple projects Required Experience Ideal Candidate: * Plant Manager Experience * Certified Lean Expert (or equivalent) * Certified 6 Sigma Black Belt (or equivalent) * Project Management experience, division level projects Job Location Hartsville, SC, US.
